July 15, 201015 yr Hello everyone,I had a question about the lighting effects in FSX. I was watching some videos of real-life night landings and I really liked how the exterior lights of the aircraft lit up the ground (ie, flashing strobes, beacons, constant nav lights, etc.). I know in FSX only the landing and taxi lights can light up the ground like this. Is it possible to create or use a modification that enables the ground to be lit up by ALL aircraft lights? Also, is there an effect out there or can one be created to light up the CLOUDS as one is flying through them? Thanks all! July 16, 201015 yr Yes it is possible to have other lights appear to illuminate the ground or the surroundings, one or two FSX aircraft do that, for example the Ariane FSX 737's red and green nav lights have two such effects on them, here are a couple of pics of that:The wingtip nav lights illuminating the ground:The starboard nav light illuminating the atmosphere from a wing view:These are specific effects not dissimilar to the A2A 3D Lights effect, so it is possible to put these effects on other aircraft (if you have them already), or it would be possible to create such effects yourself by using the SDK tools in FSX to modify existing light effects or create some new ones.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
July 16, 201015 yr Author Hello,Thank you for your reply. I have absolutely no experience with the SDK so I wouldn't know how to make such an effect myself. Are these kinds of light effects available for download anywhere? And do the strobes also light up the ground and environment? Thanks again! July 16, 201015 yr Not sure about the strobes lighting stuff, although I'm pretty sure they don't. In any case, if you want such effects and don't want to create them yourself, the gist of it is, you'll have to find an FS aircraft which has such effects, and swap them into another aircraft you want to have a similar effect on in the same way as if you liked one of the gauges on a PMDG 747 and wanted in your CLS 747, you have to have both aircraft and make the swap yourself. The only real exception to that is perhaps A2A's 3D Lights, which is geared towards that kind of thing, although again, you do have to add the things yourself. If you are not that great at making such swaps of effects, when I reviewed the original 3D Lights product for Avsim some years ago, I actually explained in the review about how to make such swaps in the text, so if you dig that out from the list of old Avsim reviews, it'll explain how it is done.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
