July 16, 201015 yr hi guys, just a little question, im guessin if u dont change the alt on the MCP, then the step climb wont happen? its just im about to fall asleep and i dont want to worry bout step climbs while im sleeping.cheers
July 16, 201015 yr In most Boeing aircraft, you must still change the cruise altitude in the FMC for the step climb to happen. The FMC just tells you when it's optimal to do this. Of course, VNAV is restricted by the MCP altitude, so you must change that as well. Joe Sherrill
July 16, 201015 yr When you reach the S/C, you have to manually press the altitude knob in your MCP to start the step climb, so no, no need to worry hi guys, just a little question, im guessin if u dont change the alt on the MCP, then the step climb wont happen? its just im about to fall asleep and i dont want to worry bout step climbs while im sleeping.cheers
July 16, 201015 yr Hes afraid he'll miss a step climb while sleeping. Heres what you do (assuming 747): Open 02_Cruise manual to page 9 and find the table towards the middle of the page. Then take half the time you will be asleep and climb the table's altitudes until you step climb to appx half your sleep time using the "Time to burn Fuel WT" column. Climb to that alltitude, and when you wake up the optimum altitude should be as much higher than you than you climbed before you left it. This balances out the optimum altitude throughout the night. July 17, 201015 yr In the step climb areas (there are two that I know of) of the FMC, overwrite ICAO with "0". This will calculate fuel burn without step climbs. July 18, 201015 yr does anyone know how to get rid of them?On another similar note, why would you want to eliminate step climbs? I always thought the FMC will only recommend a step climb if it will save on fuel, and who wouldn't want to do that? Is there a situation where a step climb is not acceptable? I always fly the 747 as RVSM and change the step climb to 2000, I have had flights where I never had a step climb recommended, but never actively turned them off. July 19, 201015 yr What i do if i want to do step climbs is (MD11) on the INIT page i enter in several altitudes i.e, 360/380/400 in the CRZ alt part there, then once i get into the air and set auto, ill set the MCP alt to 400 and it ll do the rest. it sets the points of climb for when its appropiate.brandon elam Brandon Elam PMDG 744X/8i/8f PMDG MD11 PMDG JS4100 CS 757 CS 727 LDS 767
