July 19, 201015 yr My last two flights have resulted in a freeze up and then a crash to desktop. I can go into the logs for the applications and see the error in the FS9.exe file, but I was wondering if there is anyway to narrow down what went wrong? I have had smooth flights for a while and I realize i can start taking "extra" things off one at a time to see if one particular application that I added on is causing it, but I haven't added anything on in a while. Thoughts? Is it better to always hard boot before starting FS9 to make sure everything is "clean"?Thanks.John

On that you can choose to view what is being reported to MS and will give you an error that you can narrow down to being the culprit. It could be something like a .dll being an issue or there is too much demand on your CPU or GPU.Without much information, for example system specs, type of aircraft you were flying etc. it is pretty hard to provide any help.Report back with more info and we will see if there is something that can be done. \Robert Hamlich/

Robert; Thanks very much. I checked further into the log after I tried to start up the PC and it hung up. Microsoft repeir tool said is was due to a patch installed. The last path was from Microsoft; go figure. the log showed CAPI errors and pointed me to:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums...1c-373a8d091582I will just keep an eye on it and try again. If it keeps happening, it looks like it is time to reinstall everything. Boy at times I miss XP..

Boy at times I miss XP..Hi John - A good idea if you have not already done so is to run a good defrag utility, or perhaps your settings are a little too high for your PC, before reinstalling you could also try system restore, again without any info it is hard to help as you have not listed your computer specs etc. If your PC hangs after booting up it could mean bad memory.First off, I think you should have a look at this post from Nick N and then have a look here.In many cases it is a matter of keeping your HD clear of garbage, for instance I run CCleaner and have it set to clear my cache and a whole slew of other things and I have had good results, and I clear my prefetch data before I run CCleaner BTW.Lastly, have a look at the FSX CTD forum, you may find something that is affecting your system. \Robert Hamlich/
