Start Up on Electra Turbo Prop

Featured Replies

Greetings All:I've been using an older version by Chris Buff of the L188 Electra that employs a constant rpm buildup of the prop at start up. By this, I mean that there is no fluctuating of the prop rpm as the engine comes to idle power. On a newer rendition of this AC for FS2004 by another author, on start up, the prop will start to rotate, then almost come to a stop, and then slightly rotate in the opposite direction before reversing itself to continue in the clockwise direction. It is not a smooth continuous rotation of the prop. I'd like to know if the prop rotation in a continuous rpm increase, is part of the Model or Aircraft file or where ever, and is it adjustable? I'd like to achieve a smooth, continuous start up rotation of the prop. ThanksChris

What you most likely are seeing is an optical illusion. I know of no aircraft that has it's props spin backwards on any kind of aircraft except for the Tu-95 Bear which has 2 counter rotating props on each engine. They are attached to a hub on a gearbox which in turn is connected to the engine. This is not to confuse reverse thrust when the pitch of the props is changed to help slow an aircraft down. You can see the same effect with a fan, especially under fluorescent lighting.
