MD 11 startup surprise!

Featured Replies

Today I opened FS X and loaded MD 11 for the 1st time in a couple of months. As the system was loading the Airacs as it approached the runways section it stopped, showing an error message (no number) and shut down FS X. I had 1007 Airacs(?) loaded. Have not had any problems before with any Airacs or other elements. After shutdown, I downloaded and installed the current 1008 Airacs. Started FS X again, selected the MD 11 but the same thing happened. I thought that maybe it would effect other PMDG products but that was not the case. Also, no other aircraft had this problem.I've never seen this type of error and I'd be most appreciative if someone could figure out this one. I'm at a loss. Jack Fentress

Do you by any chance have FS2Crew for the MD-11 installed? That software installs an updated version of an FSX file called "gaugesound.dll". If some other program overwrites this file, you will get the crash you describe. The fix is to open the FS2Crew start center and restore the MD-11 specific gaugesound.dll.This had me scratching my head for a while (and doing several reinstalls) before I thought to look in the troubleshooting section of the fs2crew manual.

Tom.......Bingo. That was the problem. How that happened I have no idea. I'm glad you did a little "head scratching". This fix would never have occurred to me. MD 11 is up and flying now. Thank you very much.Jack
