Fresh Install, Fresh problems!

Hi, after being unable to re install FSX due to some probable registry issues, I have re formatted and installed win7. I have a fresh install of FSX, that until today seemed pretty solid. However now, 90% of the time when I start it, it crashes with a fatal error. I have looked in the event log and the faulting module is visualfx.dll - anyone know about this one? has anyone else had the problem? Any ideas? Cheers, Mark

First thing I would try is to delete the logbook.bin file in the FSX folder.Vic

The logbook.bin issue has been around for a long time. Seems like, every now and the the file gets corrupted and will cause FSX to crash on loading. It may not be your problem but it's good to get it out of the way. CTD's after the flight starts or the sim loads are a different story but usually crashing upon loading is logbook.bin. If not, I'd start looking at video drivers next.Vic

I am still having issues with fatal errors, all the visualfx.dll. I found the logbook.bin file and delted it ( it was in the flight simulator X files folder in my documents) I have also deleted the uiautomation.dll files as suggested elsewhere, but both of these actions have not helped. I can get it running by copying back in to the root drive of my install a fresh copy of FSX which I made right after I installed it, ( this copy seems to work fine) then running it , then renaming it so the "old" new install is working again. then it will start, and run, but once it crashes with the error, I cant get it to run again, without doing the swap around. So I dont know what that says about what is happening.Anyway, I will keep on experimenting, but this is rather frustrating........Cheers, Mark

Mark, If you are using Win-7, which I assume you are if writing in this thread, your logbook.bin is here: C:\Users\((your name))\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files

Mark - browsed around a bit and find that several folks fixed this same problem by using a registry scanner to defrag the registry. There are several freeware and some payware AND some scamware. I know that regscan is a scam, other than that - check google but the scan seems to have solved the issue for some.Good luck,Vic
