Best Sound Card Settings for FSX

Featured Replies

I have an Asus Xonar D2 PCI Audio card. Can anyone confirm how important the settings in the Asus driver are to FSX. For example, I can set the "sample rate" to PCM 44.1, 48, 96 or 192KHz. Logic says that 192Khz gives the best quality but would FSX be "happier" with a different (lesser) setting? There are also settings for "virtual surround. Will these interfere with FSX at all?The reason I ask is that I have noticed that occassionally, but not always, it is reported in the Windows Action Center / Reliability History, that the Asus Audio Center crashed (see log below). Even when this happens, it does not affect the sim or the sound. I only know about it because I occassionally monitor the reliability graphs.Tx!DescriptionFaulting Application Path: C:\Program Files\ASUS Xonar D2 Audio\Customapp\ASUSAUDIOCENTER.EXEProblem signatureProblem Event Name: APPCRASHApplication Name: ASUSAUDIOCENTER.EXEApplication Version: 0.1.1.9Application Timestamp: 4afa27a8Fault Module Name: msvcrt.dllFault Module Version: 7.0.7600.16385Fault Module Timestamp: 4a5bda6fException Code: c0000005Exception Offset: 0000ca75OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48Locale ID: 7177Additional Information 1: 0a9eAdditional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789Additional Information 3: 0a9eAdditional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789Extra information about the problemBucket ID: 1666988938

Lesser sound settings will result in better performance. I can't address your Asus issues, but I use 16 bit sound 44.1 or 48 KHz. With a less powerful computer, I have had stuttering issues with 24 bit sound. I don't think the virtual surround sound will cause any problem.

Thanks Art,Does make sense. I will start with 44khz and monitor performance (and the background crashing). I had it set on 96 (Default I think?) before.Cheers
