September 7, 201015 yr Hi everyoneI've just uploaded the final version of my Outer Terrain textures to the library. This version contains a complete set of 26 textures (25 land, 1 water) and includes water transition tiles for 13 of the 25 land textures. Adding water transitions for the other land textures would take forever so I picked 13 of the most likely and obvious candidates and ignored the remainder. I had hoped to complete the water transitions in April but I've been abroad for the last 4 months and didn't get chance to complete them before I went.I haven't had time to create a new rules.txt file but maybe someone could have a bash at this? I think Dave Morgan was planning to have a go but I have an idea he was waiting on me to forward the water transitions...sorry Dave...The zip file contains:A new gentiles.tag fileA copy of the RULES.TXT file originally provided with the last beta release of the texturesThe 26 base textures as TarGA imagesA tile transition spreadsheet (so you'll know whether agriculture will transition with snow, for example)The full list of textures and their FU3 identifiers is as follows:A AgricultureB SuburbanC CanyonD Dark ForestE Rice fieldsF ForestG GrassH High DesertI HighlandsJ FieldsK MarshL Light ForestM MesaN ChaparralO OrchardsP PuebloQ Spring TundraR MeadowS SnowT Grassy HillsU UrbanV Salt FlatsW WaterX Forest/Snow MixY Desert ScrubZ Winter TundraRegardsJonathan S.
September 7, 201015 yr Hey!It's very generous of you to suggest a suitable excuse for me but the bottom line is I was being put off by **&@!! around with a recalcitrant GFX card & OS. Things are finally working sort of smoothly (CTD is down to 1 in about 10 flights which I think is the best I can hope for). You can see my interest was rekindled a couple of weeks ago.The other (sadder?) news is my slave-driver daughter is on the verge of moving out so I ought to have time & cash to get things going properly again, not to mention the need of a project to fill my time. The PC will be relieved of several gig of Sims II too...Ah, and winter's coming (can spring be far behind?). Long quiet nights. And I actually feel rather guilty too.Later.D
September 7, 201015 yr Hi JOnathan SI dont normaly use the outter terain bicous the ground is unstaibl every where other than the flatend airports, and I avoid flatend airports bicous thay provid no life for my gliders, which I fly allmost excloosivly. To this end, my FU3 insterlations are by choice mirer imiged terain.By unstaibl, I mean roling along on the ground and sudanly being shot into the air, sumtims hundreds of feet, as iftreding on a land mine. But what with all this talk by Dave Morgan and nouw your self, I thort I would giv the outter terain a go.I hav installed your outter terain but I carnt see any diferace, mined you, thats not suprizing as Iv not seen theoutter terain for about 7 yers, and eeven back the I never used it.Perhaps I hav not installed it properly?Your installation instructtions make no menshon of the (Base Tiles.zip), what do I do with them?Im sory if my coments dont sound very apresheativ of all your hard work, I am, I do apresheat your hard work. Its just that Iv just realized I carnt easaly go back to my mirad terain. All the bestglidernut
September 8, 201015 yr I noticed that whole-plane ballistic disposal system myself. I've no idea what causes it, unless it's driving on the ground over the edge of one tile and onto another. It reminds me of those very surprising fairground rides.Or the Buckaroo I never had but all my mates did when I was a kid...I grew up and now play it with sleeping strangers on trains.
September 8, 201015 yr Author Hi GlidernutThe attached images (taken near Grand Canyon West) show the difference between the original LGS textures and my new ones. The first image shows the LGS textures, the second my new textures. However, as the RULES.TXT file needs a lot of work you'll find that the layout of the textures is the same as the original LGS layout, i.e. only the textures themselves have changed as per the screenshots. As regards installation, the base TarGA images don't need to be installed. I only included them so that anyone who wants to add their own rules can see what the new textures look like before trying to use them. As long as you've copied my new GENTILES.TAG and RULES.TXT files to your /Flight3/gentiles folder then FU3 will replace the original 13 LGS textures with my new versions. However, you'll need to generate loose GTL tiles to see all the changes (see my ReadMe.txt file in the zip file you downloaded).Hope this makes sense!RegardsJonathan S.
September 9, 201015 yr Hi Dave,I will let you in to a littl seecret, but dont tel any one els will you.In OPTIONS, I use GEAR DAMAGE OFF and INVULNERABLE ON and COLLISIONS ON.This enabls me to play a littl gane.Iv got gliders, para gliders, and microwlights, flying along my slopes as mooving obgets.I like to deliberatly crash into them, but its not easy trying to cach them, thay hav the advanige of not needing lift to stay in the air, like I do.If I hit every singl one of them, I win.But sumtimes after a bad bump, I downt hav enuf hight to recuver, and land up side douwn, this is game over, I loos.I could continu the game by useing the PageUp or zor, but that would be cheeting, one has to hav sum rools in any game. The outter terain is a bit like that, being shot hundreds of feet into the air is ok, one has the hight to recuver. Its the small bumps that are daingeras, thay will flip you onto your back where you liye like a beeched wail.glidernut ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Jonathan S,Your right, thats one hek of an improovment. So the base TarGA images are for us to play with, thats good, thats very good.Thats like beeing given a free program, and the sor code as well. The Seattle terain has its owne palet. To be found in \region's\Seattl\engpile\resreg.reg\file 10. ussing ResViewer. The Sanfran terain has its owne palet. Do you hapen to know what palit the outter terain useis? and where can it be found?I use the old free vershon of (Point Shop Pro 7) which can be douwnloded from this sight.http://www.oldversion.com/Paint-Shop-Pro.html#downloadI perchest the new vershon of (Point Shop Pro 7) but its crap, it downt suport FU3s palits.I dont hav ither (Excel or OpenOffice formats). Iill think about this later. Jonathan, you hav inspiyerd me.glidernut
September 9, 201015 yr Hi Glidernut,As Jonathan started with his project about 1 year ago I have looked at the outer terrain once more and find out how to create additional one. There are 3 files in FU3 (OuttagA, OuttagB and OuttagC) and I have generated a top north one as file OuttagD going up to Vancouver. To handle the elevation and classification fart inside the tag files I have build a modified version of the GeoTilesViewer as Outer Terrain Viewer. With it you can inspect the outer terrain region and modify the values without EXCEL. I will test the new set provided by Jonathan soon, thanks Jonathan for this huge work :-).more at: http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/OTCreate.htmlAnother set of files are under construction covering the central part of Europe (unusable in the original LG version)Outer terrain around the south west corner of Switzerland.Unfortunately the elevation of the outer terrain is unstable, they use another elevation scale and a 50% resolution.enjoy anyway :-)Andre

You can view and export the palette very easily using IrfanView: select Image - Palette - Edit Palette or Image - Palette - Export PaletteIn The GIMP you can either view the palette directly by selecting Colours - Map - Rearrange Colourmap or, if you want a permanent copy available at all times, import the palette from the image itself:Select Windows - Dockable Dialogues - Palettes Right click anywhere in the Palettes window and select Import Palette... Under Select Source select Image Under Import Options change the Palette name (if desired) Click the Import button The imported palette will then appear at the top of the list of palettes in the palette window. Right click it and select Edit Palette... to view, zoom, etc.The GIMP is open source so you can download it for free @ http://www.gimp.org/downloads/The same applies with OpenOffice. If you want it then download it free @ http://download.openoffice.org/Kind regardsJonathan S.
