Cub Flying

Featured Replies

Saturday morning my best bud and flying partner James and I took his 85hp J-3 Cub up for what was intended to be a long day of fly in visiting and pilot mingling. A ten minute hop from his 900ft strip to Miller Airpark (2,500ft or so of grass) and we were wondering if the rain and ceiling were going to stay away. --no--After a few hours or so of shooting the bull with the hundreds of other folks that flew in, it was time to leave (mainly because the rain was getting heavier). It was my leg back, so I was excited and couldn't wait for the 'interesting' approach into his place.By the time we were over the lake on the approach end of his strip, visibility had dropped to 4 miles with steady rain in that local area, but we were both having a great time! As I flew over the field to check the sock, James -in colorful language- mentioned the resident geese had parked on the middle of the strip--right at the touch down point. I'll make a long story short. After three LOW approaches and many screamed expletives out of the side door, the geese waddled their sorry arses out of the way so that I could make a *perfect* three pointer on Terra Firma.I couldn't help but grin the whole drive home (if not feeling like a complete redneck) for screaming "Get off the ****ing runway!" at geese from an aircraft while flying over golfers and James' neighbors at 80 mph! :( Some feelings I can't replicate in my computer chair; or the flight school's 182 for that matter!
