September 14, 201015 yr After I click on Refresh AI Aircraft, the following is shown on ASE's main window:The Log shows this:You can see, it continues just fine, but it's now 12:57 (sitting at the gate) and ASE's main window still shows "FS flight is not active, pausing weather writes until ready status is active...". A new message will appear eventually. But at the same time, Depiction Output Active is not displayed either, so the average user can only guess as to ASE's activities.A bit of a nitpick, but I think this could be cleared up in a future update. Just showing an additional line will do and of course the Depiction Output Active could be on all the time it is active, but I think that was already supposed to change in the future, if I'm not mistaken.Additionally. I understand that during some processes of ASE, the user needs to be locked out of the program. But why is it, that any pop-up of ASE displays on top of everything else on my computer? I don't do automatic updates, so I download weather manually which I may not use until (hours/days) later. During the minute long download and conversion process, the pop-up prevents me from doing anything usueful in the mean time, which has gotten very annoying. Finally, with AS 6.5, the weather setting on FS9's main screen (where you set up your flight) would change to custom or something to that extent, to me that was a sign that AS had successfully linked to the sim. With ASE that doesn't seem to happen. Should it? If not, is it best to save the default flight with a clear weather theme? Or doesn't it matter? Mike...
September 15, 201015 yr Hi Mike,The log snip is 15 seconds long from top to bottom. Not much I can tell from that. Yes, if your traffic is re-loading or you are at a menu screen in FS, that message will continue.User lock outs are when actions are taking place that with other computer actions may become corrupt, so ASE takes full control until these actions are done. Yes, downloading and processing archived data is one such time.If FS and ASE are communicating properly, the weather will automatically be set to User Defined. If not, then you have a bad SimConnect install with FSX or FSUIPC with FS9.
September 15, 201015 yr Author The log snip is 15 seconds long from top to bottom. Not much I can tell from that. Not much, but for this thread, it shows exactly what it needs to show. You can see: Sent AI Refresh Command... then later FS Busy... then FS flight is not active... Immediately after that, normal communication resumes.ASE's main window continues to say, FS flight is not active... add to that no Depiction Output Active message and you've got a confused user.My suggestion is to do something about that. I think I was quite clear.User lock outs are when actions are taking place that with other computer actions may become corrupt, so ASE takes full control until these actions are done. Yes, downloading and processing archived data is one such time.Strange thing is, I hardly see any ASE CPU usage during that time in Windows Task Manager. And even though there's an annoying popup, sometimes I can work around it and I do, no problems so far.If FS and ASE are communicating properly, the weather will automatically be set to User Defined. If not, then you have a bad SimConnect install with FSX or FSUIPC with FS9.FS9 exclusively here. FSUIPC's install log of 3.98a shows a successfull installation. I've manually updated after that with just the dll file. Current version is 3.989c, the latest available through Pete's Forum. Is there anyway to verify my FSUIPC install, it seems to work fine for all my other programs. And User Defined has never displayed with ASA or ASA through different Windows versions and everything. Works fine to this day with AS 6.5.I get to FS9's main screen after startup, I select my aircraft, I activate a flightplan, I don't touch the weather, then I set the time. When I come back from the time selection screen, weather says User Defined. Over the years this has always been the case with AS, never with ASE and ASA... Mike...

It could be disk writing as well.User Defined weather is not a part of our programs. It is a part of FS9 on the Weather Screen. For a fair number of years we have automatically changed this to User Defined, from probably wxRE to ASE.
September 16, 201015 yr Author 14 seconds is not too long to wait, in your example. What you don't show in the ASE window snip is the bottom of the messages where the new lines of information are added.Sigh... from my opening post: You can see, it continues just fine, but it's now 12:57 (sitting at the gate) and ASE's main window still shows "FS flight is not active, pausing weather writes until ready status is active...".Log time 12:32, normal communication resumes after "FS is not active..." message. It's not important what comes after that in the log, just normal messages. The point of my post is that at the same time, well over 20 minutes later, the main screen still says "FS flight is not active...". The only other thing you need to know is that during that time my aircraft was sitting at the gate (to give AI a chance to settle down). This is one example, it happens every flight. You need to change ASE programmatically to show another message on the main screen ("All systems go...") or you need to find out why ASE doesn't resume normal messaging on the main screen after an AI refresh. Want to see more of the log, fire up FS9, refresh AI and collect info.:( It doesn't mean CPU usage only. It could be disk writing as well.Well, I hope it's doing something! Although I do not understand what's so susceptible to corruption, if you insist on stealing focus, do it completely. As it is now, there's still plenty damage you can do. The only example I can think of is TuneUp Utilities' Registry Defrag. As you can see in the capture, it not only steals focus, it darkens the entire screen and there's absolutely nothing else you can do.For a fair number of years we have automatically changed this to User Defined, from probably wxRE to ASE. Well, I'm telling you, this has never worked for me with ASA and ASE on a variety of setups...:( Mike...
October 15, 201015 yr Author On top of all this, AI Refresh did not work at all for me during a flight recently. I clicked on it several times, but the sim did not refresh AI and AI ended up using the wrong runway ends. I had to change time manually.ASE continues to be a challenge.:( Mike...
April 10, 201115 yr Author Another beautiful illustration of the stealing focus issue. I really wish you would address that or at least give me the option to change the behavior to only stealing focus of ASE, instead of all the rest. Come on guys, don't make me get down on my knees and beg...:( Mike...
April 10, 201115 yr Why not just advance time in the fs menu by a minute? That refreshes the Ai. or I think ultimate traffic and fsuipc both have buttons that you can configure.
April 11, 201115 yr Author I think they addressed the AI Refresh issue in a later build, so that's not a problem anymore, at least not for me.:( Mike...
