Upgrading my cpu?

Featured Replies

I am using the amd phenome x4 64 chip at 1.8 ghz, I really need to upgrade. I'm not sure if I can do it myself. I need some advice on how to do it. I looked at a video on youtube and it looked pretty straight forward. I am just wondering If it is possible with my computer it is a gateway model DX4200. If i do buy a new chip do I have to install all new software or will it be as simple as putting the new chip in and startion up my computer with lots more speed.Thank you in advance,Anthony

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz   3.60 GHZ, 32 GB ram, win 11, gtx 4070 Super

It's as easy as that. No software necessary.

Your board's socket is AM2+ right?, meaning that you can stick any AM3 CPU there. You have plenty options depending on your budget, but don't waste your money on any x6 if the rig is mainly for FSX. 4 cores are more than enough. a 965 is a quad and has nice stock speed @ 3.4GHz.If you are overclocking a 955 is a better choice. Also unlocked and same potential for less money, and if you can grab a 95W 955, then it will have much better overclocking potential
