September 21, 201015 yr Hi Guys,This weekend if pretty major for me, its a two week break for school so Im installing a CPU Cooler onto my LGA 1156 socket, and overclocking. I know the risks etc, but ill be fine :)I went in to see if a Coolermaster V8 was available, but they don't have it so they re-directed me to a cheaper cooler at a cheap price which is appartnley as good as the CM V8, its a XigmaTek Achilles S1284 Heat Pipe Cooler. Has anybody got any feedback with it? If it isn't have that good, I can buy a CM V8 off ebay for the same price, but don't really want to do that.My overall goal is to get my i5 750 as close to 4ghz as possible.
September 21, 201015 yr I use the Prolima Megahalem for my i7 920. I can get to 4.0 Ghz and probably even higher. I have disabled hyperthreading since that isn't very useful for FSX anyway. Disabling hyperthreading the CPU temp so you can overclock more.Is is also suitable for socket 1156 and quite easy to install. you probably have to remove your motherboard though but that is necessary for most high end coolers anyway. September 21, 201015 yr I am using a Corsair H50 water cooling kit to get my i7 950 running at 4GHz. The H50 is a sealed kit that you just install like any other air cooler except for mounting the radiator with the rear outlet fan. I've got the fans running as slow as possible (around 1500 RPM) and am achieving core temps at idle of around 40C, max under full load of 60C and around 48C running FSX. Yes I could get these temps lower with higher fan speeds and possibly overclock higher, but I love the quietness of my new setup and am content with moderate rather than agressive overclocks nowadays.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

It's only about 80$ too.

A very, very good cooler and shifts air at a huge rate especially when combined with a good case with a topside vent. I have had mine at 3.8 for over a year now and it hasn't complained.
