August 26, 200322 yr I have my COF sliders to a level I am comfortable with for the most part.I am running in 1280x960 with 2xAA and only 2AF on a AMD XP2000(1.67)with a GF4-ti4600.3D Clouds = 100% and Max coverage.AI = 100% autogen = Normal or Dense. most sliders pretty far rightLocked at 22 FPS ( getting in in between dense cities no problem -goes down to 12 or so in heavy cities at dusk with multiplecloud layers ).I am looking considering an FX5900 and looking for your experiences if you are an FX5900 upgrader. What I want to achieve out of an upgrade is :1. Same setting but be able to run 4xAA and 4x or 8x AF.2. modest FPS increase - just looking for 2 or 3 FPS to bringme up from 12 to 15 or so in the heavy area.any thoughts? Thanks,Myles
August 26, 200322 yr Myles,Well I didnt have the GF4 like u have, BUT hope this is useful:Went from a GeForce 3 64MB -->to an FX5900 Ultra 256MBWas: locked @ 20FPS outside large cities, sliders about 3/4...inlcuding autogen at 1 notch FROM full and scenery complexity 1 notch FROM full. Depending on cloud situation, it wouldnt dip down too much unless clouds were heavy then it would fall horribly into 6-9 FPS range. Now, with FX5900 I am getting about same! And the dips are down to 9-16 instead of 6-9FPS...There seems to be a certain CLOUD TYPE that says 9FPS no matter what kind of computer you have (J/K)Now I have all textures to MAX setting as I like crisp clear textures and all the bells & whistles...But I kept my GF3 cause that SOB was ONE GREAT CARD!!!! Hope this helps a bit- I was not very impressed and expected too much- but why NOT? I PAID MUCH! ! :)Edit: Sorry havent tested much with AA...I fear to see what FPS that would produce!btw- 2.2Ghz P4, 768MB Ram, 21" Trinitron running 1600x1200.
