Fuel Calculations for default/Realair C172

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!Recently after flying for real I've realised the limitations of Flight Sim, so I've been trying to make it as real as possible for myself. This includes calculating the amount of fuel I need for each flight.I was planning a flight from Spokane INTL to Yakima last night and got a little stuck with it. I know the basic rule for calculating fuel is:Flight Duration / Average Fuel Flow RateWhat I'm having trouble with is knowing the fuel flow rate. The aircraft I'm using is the Realair C172. (Technically the default C172)I know the Flight duration, at a cruise of 110Kts will be 109 minutes, and 124.2 minutes including my alternate airport Bowers Field (KELN).Does anyone know where I can get the data to work out what my fuel flow rate will be so I can calculate my fuel properly? It will be much appreciated- Jon

Jon,I don't use that add-on so I don't know how accurately they modeled the real aircraft. A real 172 average is about 8GPH all day, every day. But if you want to be very accurate you could go to any Pilot shop and purchase a C172 manual. The Performance section will have fuel flows to the tenth of a gallon for various altitudes and temperatures.

You could add a fuelflow gauge to the panel.Or measure how much fuel you use during a period of flying at the same enginesettings.

That'd be an idea. I'm really looking for performance figures.... I do appreciate your help though.I definitely wouldn't be able to add a gauge to the panel anytime soon! haha
