September 9, 200322 yr Hi,I was wondering if anyone else has or had the same problem with FS2004. I have a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64meg and run full screen 1280*1024 to suit my LCD monitor. I have the latest Nvidia 45.23 drivers and run XP Pro. Since installation of FS9 FS2004 when I switch from window to full screen the screen goes black and the mouse pointer flashes with the hourglass and the HDD is accessed. I have waited but it stays like that indefinately. I have tried earlier drivers without success. It doesnt do it all the time and I have deleted the config to start again. Any ideas.Mike United Kingdom
September 9, 200322 yr It doesn't happen to me all the time, but I get that problem too. Not sure what is causing it. Maybe it has something to do with the problems of using AA below 2x and fullscreen. Try using 4x AA or no AA at all and see if you get any improvement in your situation.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/35111.jpg___________________________________________________ Lu
September 9, 200322 yr Same issue here. Was initially advised disabling Fast Writes would help, but I saw no difference. This issue requires my start-up of programs in a very specific order - as - I cannot go to minimized screen on FS to start up an internet connect, accessory sim program, or whatever, and come back to FS with the "certainty" of having a full screen after hitting "Ctrl-Enter". What I have noticed is the system itself is not frozen to the black screen - it is just FS. An, FS is still "running" - as you can use FS's "X" to leave the program - FS asks you confirming wanting to close FS out. And, other items on task bar are still accessible - and work fine - while the black screen is flickering with FS.Not sure if this is part of the well discussed driver issues, or another problem within FS itself. My work-around - is simply - to start everything I want for FS - "before" I start FS9. Seems I am able to get FS up & running 99% of time - in this order - as long as I don't go minimized - full screen too many times.... Use AA from ATI card - 4X - have AA unchecked within FS9.2.8 on P4PE1 meg PC2700 DDR SDRAMATI 9700 ProCat. 3.6AudigyXP Home
September 9, 200322 yr It happens to me too. It's not the video card. It happened with my onboard video (Intel 845) and now with my ATI Radeon 7500. I stumped. R-
September 9, 200322 yr Dont know if your running fsuipc ,but read the threads on Peter Dowsons forum about black screens here, I get this on a task switch and its related to fsuipc, will be fixed in his next version.Read the second thread "important" http://forums.simflight.com/viewforum.php?f=54
September 9, 200322 yr Same here, TI 4200, but I don't think it's the card...I downloaded DirectX9 new Drivers from microsoft. Also reinstalled Captain Sim 727 (huge file)to 2004. So it happened to me after those two actions. Fixin to kill Captain Sim to see if that one is the problem.I have to cntrl/alt/delete, to get back in to FS9 each time once I minus the screen to get to Windows Explorer.
September 9, 200322 yr Wallace,Good informative link - thanks. Will be interesting to see if this is the cause / cure. Wonder if Pete will default his suggested cure into next version release / non-registered versions ?
September 9, 200322 yr Hi all,I just experienced the black screens when switching to full screen and worked on it during the whole week-end, without success.I applied Pete's trick this evening and it worked OK for me as soon as I applied the modification to FSUIPC.INI. No problems at all when switching to full screen, even with AA on !Thanks to Pete and his programming competence !Alain
September 9, 200322 yr Thanks for the replies. I thought it was just a problem I had. I have read Pete Dowsons IMPORTANT message and hopefully the work around might work. I dont know about others but as I fly for British Airways Virtual access to the flight monitor program is essential to post position reports and switching from full to windowed usually results in loss of the flight. We will see. It is worth reading Pete Dowsons work around.Mike
