September 11, 200322 yr I thought that when you were ready to taxi for t/o that you could ask for another rwy than the one ground gave you. I know you can request a different one for landing. I was at KOAK over at parking by 27R. Ground had me go all the way over to 29. There was no option to request 27R. That's a bummer if you can't. Especially like at KOAK where GA is far away from 29 and you can't ask for the closer rwy or that ground wouldn't give it to you in the first place. I know at KPDX if I'm at flight craft on the north side it sends me to 28R/10L and if I'm parked on the south side it sends me to 28L/10R.John
September 11, 200322 yr It may also depend on the aircraft you're flying. I know that if you're on a non-towered airport, you can pick the runway.
September 11, 200322 yr heck FS ATC @ KSTL has planes landing on rwy 13/31 which has been closed for a while, plus the dang runway is only 6290x75.... Regards,
September 11, 200322 yr wouldn't it depend on which way wind direction?ATC shouldn't have you flying with the wind on take off, I wouldn't think?
September 11, 200322 yr Well at KOAK 29 & 27R would be the same direction pretty much. I think it's just picking the longest rwy. But I would think there should be an option since I was in a cessna 172. John
September 12, 200322 yr Wind it appears does not seem to be a huge factor in landings and departures for ATC. @ KSTL 99.9% of the time departures and arrivals are given 30R/L even if the winds favor 12R/L. Example. Yesterday I was arrving from KTUL, METARS showed winds 178/14, so I was planning on 12R for my arrival. I get in range and ATC , gives me 30L which is fine, but not realistic. 2k2 seemed better with runway assignments for landing and departures. Maybe AFCAD will help :-) Regards,
September 12, 200322 yr Author Wind direction is not a factor when using FSmeteo or WXre, im told to taxi and hold short of rw29 when the wind is 110/20, how realistic is that.OHN
