September 11, 200322 yr Alright, seems most everyone is taking a good 5 FPS or so framerate hit when using the 2D panel of pretty much any aircraft. I get 15-20 FPS in the VC or external view most all the time, but my 2D panel performance always hangs around 8-12 FPS...enough of a diff that it turns into quite an unpleasant experience.I LOVE flying the VC and do so when flying the default jets, but I have some concern that when I add a payware plane (planning on on either the CS 727 or upcoming DF727) the VC detail will be such that it will slow my machine down and I'll have to use the 2D panel...Thoughts? I'd love to get my 2D panel performance up to that of the VC. I just can't see why the performance is so lousy seeing as how when in the VC I zoom out to .50 zoom and therefore have alot wider field of view...I'd think that would mean more things to render and slower performance, but nope. :(
September 11, 200322 yr I use the following settings and the 2D panel preformance equals or exceeds the VC, which is not how I started out. Take 'em or leave 'em, it's what I use...{DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420.0}Mode=1024x768x32TextureAGP=0TriLinear=1PanelAsTexture=0RenderToTexture=0{DISPLAY}UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=20TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=360
September 11, 200322 yr Thanks Edwin. I did add the PanelAsTexture=0 line, but don't think I have the TextureAGP=0 line in there. I'll give it a whirl!
September 11, 200322 yr One thing that may help is if the panel is "split" into two parts, such as the 737 panel. Closing the light switch portion of the panel will gain some performance.Something I didn't notice until I dug deeper into the issue--this issue does exist in FS2002 as well. Never noticed it in FS2002, as both my panel/no panel fps figures exceeded 25fps, where I normally keep FS2002 locked. Since I fly with more eye candy in FS2004 (aka "3-d clouds"), my performance dips below 25 fps with the panel displayed around airports. Hence "the problem" seeming to be "introduced" in FS2004.After further research, the only gain PanelAsTexture=0 (I originally suggested it coming out of the beta) seems to give is somewhat greater gauge and panel clarity. The flip side to it is I have to disable AA in the application and "Force" it via Rivatuner, else the 2-d panels don't show at all.Also--on my slow system, upping the res to 1280x1024 causes fps to stay the same (around 19 with no Autogen and AI around) with and without a 2d panel. Regards,John
September 12, 200322 yr I tried this last night, along with the FS9 dir compression discussed in the other thread, and still no dice. The 2D panel is still ~5 FPS less than the VC or any external view. Anyone else have a cure?
September 12, 200322 yr 'RenderToTexture=0' seemed to have the largest impact on my setup. I think it's configurable under the Hardware Tab also.
September 12, 200322 yr I had that one set as well. I basically took your whole entry there and added it to my cfg file...didn't seem to help much. Maybe increased total FPS by 1 or 2, but still a good bit slower than the VC. Thanks though!
September 12, 200322 yr Undock the panel. For some reason this gives me like 3 or 4 FPS better.. Also undock the outside view, because it will take up the whole window when the panel gets undocked. This is the first thing I do when starting up FS every time.VERY strange issue I must say.
September 12, 200322 yr Interesting. I always run in fullscreen view, so you can't undock there. But maybe I'll try running it in a window and doing as you say...
September 12, 200322 yr On my setup using..TextureAGP=0PanelAsTexture=0..in conjunction causes my 2D panel to flicker endlessly when weather updates (????) and also causes the GPS to do a memory dump and just kick me out to desktop closing the sim.
