September 16, 200322 yr I remember seeing a three-minute video, downloaded from the MSFS2004 official site, where an enthusiastic and professional voice enchanted me with the wonders of an amazing 3D engine supposed to draw clouds and have them change according to winds and general atmosphere conditions. The video showed clouds moving gracefully, with small puffs eventually dissolving from their tops. I haven't checked if that video is still there, but all I see is in MY FS9 is garbles of textures desperately trying to face my plane as I fly, in a rather unpleasant circular ticking motion, like the seconds-hand of an old post-office clock. A very unrealistic looking behaviour, as far as clouds go!What happened to 3D clouds? It's one of the main reasons I bought FS9 for! Is it just me, or those clouds never made it to the final version? And if so, why didn't anyone tell us? Wait, maybe I have a good guess...luca
September 16, 200322 yr Just check your ingame display sliders.. they are there.. but obvious not set on.Johan[A HREF=http://www.phoenix-simulation.co.uk]Phoenix Simulation Software[/A]-----http://www.people.zeelandnet.nl/johdUnofficial PSS WebsiteCURRENTLY MY SERVER IS DOWN FOR A FEW WEEKS!
September 16, 200322 yr Dear Johan, I forgot to mention that my 3d cloud percentage is set to 100, as well as my cloud coverage slider being on HIGH! This is the reason why I'm so upset with Microsoft! (besides, maybe, another two or three...):-)luca
September 16, 200322 yr I made 2 movies of the clouds using Fraps. I think the clouds look amazing in the videos LOL. I just cranked up the speed up to max (about 128x) and they look real cool in motion. The first one is with the Cold front theme on, and the 2nd one is the Building storms theme. Not sure if this is what your looking for, just felt like doing something cool LOL.Videos are here: http://briefcase.yahoo.com/[email protected]Oh yeah, please Save Target As instead of playing live.
September 16, 200322 yr Man, I just flew the FSD T-38 into a mountain range in the Middle East and with real weather updates I saw clouds slowly form amd dissapate with a nice horizon line also and thinking how cool it looked and what a realistic experience it seemed like. I then come here and see thus, don't know what to tell ya, looks awesome for me, maybe a driver deal since your settings seem to be cranked.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com Best, Michael KDFW
September 16, 200322 yr Luca,I ask you to consider one of three possibilities:1: Microsoft don't know what they're doing2: You don't know what you're doing3: Your hardware isn't up to the job.I guess from those videos we can rule out 1:, so it's up to you to decide which of the two remaining choices applies in this case, but you haven't given us your system specs so we can't rule out 3: at this stage. If you're having technical troubles its always a good idea to post full system specs.Allcott
September 17, 200322 yr Ok, ok, here are my system specs. I didn't post them because Fs9 should run flawlessly on my rig, and it doesn't. I'm using AcitveSky with FSUIPC, and at this point I think they might be creating problems. Weather transitions are NON-EXISTENT (and tried all possible settings, too), frame rate and stutterings are close to unacceptable, and the sim crashes everynow and then. Anyway:AthlonXp 2600+ on Epox 8KHA+512Mb PC2100256Mb Radeon 9800PROSbLive!Win98SEALL drivers updatedBy the way, thanks for the videos, Zack. They do look gorgeous. Think I might just go back to Real Weather for the time being.luca
