September 17, 200322 yr Everytime I look in the SS forum it is totally dominated by FFX DC10 or some other heavy, flying over some nameless place, with great clouds and maybe a lightning effect. What about a place only for us G.A. lovers? I get no satisfaction from hauling a 747 at 37,000 feet from place to place. Small flights under 10,000 feet. Small planes that move when they get hit with turbulence. Real cockpits and screenshots of the landing from the cockpit.Am I alone?
September 17, 200322 yr No, you're not alone ;) I'm a big fan of GA planes, and from time to time I do post at AVSIM's screenshot forum - nearly always GA pics. What I like about this forum is the wide audience, and there are always some nice replies when the pics are good. There's also a good screenshot forum over at flightsimnetwork.com with a small but very nice GA community coexisting with the commercial pilots.A forum only makes sense if there is a critical mass of people reading and posting. At the moment I don't have the impression that there is an audience big enough to make a GA screenshot forum work. So im content with the status quo.BUT if there was a busy forum only dedicated to GA pics, I'd be a daily visitor ;)VOlker :]
September 17, 200322 yr I disagree with the need for a seperate forum. If people want GA shots, they can post them. As Volker said, there does not seem to be a large interest in GA shots. I enjoy them, but then I see them in the general screenshots forum. The more fragmented the forums become, the less traffic each one gets. I know people get more help with hardware issues in the general MS forum than they did in the hardware forum. If you start splitting the screenshot forum up, where do you stop? Military aircraft? European? Planes from 1970-1980? Fantasy schemes?Tony
September 17, 200322 yr You're not alone!Although I started flying heavy iron in FS4 and kept flying them until FS2k2 came out, I'm a big GA fan. I also don't get much satisfaction turning dials and watching the AP do most of the flying.I'd love to post some pictures of my flights. I usually fly 172s, 182s, and the 208.
September 17, 200322 yr I'm sure everybody who likes to fly GA is very welcome to post in the screenshot forum! I don't have much time to fly, so I don't post that often, but my last posts have generated a lot of positive replies. When I scan over the topics I normally skip all those Boeing 747 from NY to Tokyo etc. posts, but sometimes even I enjoy them, especially because the big jet scene has some awesome painters!VOlker :]
September 17, 200322 yr I think perhaps you are expressing something I have felt for quite a while-perhaps in a slightly different way.It used to be that one became a member of a virtual community on a particular flight board-and sometimes changed from to another when a new sim came out. If you were in to Pro Pilot-you gravitated to that board-and became virtual family, and friends after a period of time. You would sometimes share off topic conversations, personal joys and sorrows, and sometimes even pictures, but mostly talk about the sim. It seems the Pro Pilot board has retained this sense of community-perhaps because the sim is now defunct.Now-everything is strict-pictures go here, off topic conversation goes here, and this board can only be xyz. I understand why avsim implemented this-but frankly if I had a vote I'd much prefer the old way. The new way seems a little sterile to me-kind of like a Sam's Club vs. a mom and pop grocery store with personality. So I share your perception that the screen shot forum seems most of the time to be sharing of repaints of jets. I post there every once in a while, but have the feeling that what I am sharing may not be of much interest over there. I suppose there could be further dividing such as a Ga sim forum vs. a Jet sim forum.More simpler and prefered to me would be to go back to the old way-of having a particular community. Not meant as a critic of the present system, just a personal preference. :-)http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/Geofdog2.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
September 17, 200322 yr Well..... if you'd like to post your GA shots.... then why don't you. We have some hardcore GA fans over there and most of us like to see GA pics every once in a while. Though it is correct that we mostly enjoy flying the big jets :)
September 17, 200322 yr I know what you mean, Geof. I rather prefer the "community" feeling myself. Since I almost strictly fly bush and helos at that, I spend most of my forum time between here and the bush forums. (For the helo community, it's Hover Control for me!) I haven't poked my nose into the screenshot forum for ages. It's true that occasionally some fights would break out in a specific community, but that only added to the fun -- IMO -- plus it gave the moderators something to do, keeping things civil! :-lol But to address the original question, I don't really think a separate GA screenshot forum is necessary. We just can't be afraid to go in there and post the shots we want to see. -Lindy :-rotor:-beerchug
