September 19, 200322 yr Hi all as someone who has yet to purchase FS9 i have been reading quite a few posts regarding the flight modelling in Fs9 in that in some peoples opinions it seems to be worse than previous versions. I guess what i want to know is how is it worse and will the average simmer notice the differences??
September 19, 200322 yr The flight dynamics of 2004 are different. Whether that difference results in unintended worse or better performance will depend on the individual legacy aircraft's own individual dynamics being carried over. Aircraft designed or modified with 2004 dynamics in mind should perform as the designer intends.Your question really should then be:1. How does XXX aircraft by So-And-So perform if I copy it over from FS2002 into FS2004?Or:2. Is XXX aircraft by So-And-So going to be updated with FS2004 dynamics?Unless specifically referenced, people who tell you things are "worse" or "better" really have no basis.
September 19, 200322 yr The average person will notice little or no difference IMHO. There are those who are screaming that the flight dynamics are all screwed up and that the sim is horrible for this and a million other reasons. These are the same people who would complain vehemently about paying taxes if they won the lottery. :-8 FS9 is great, flight dynamics are fine except for a few minor bugs I am extremely happy with it. There are SO many wonderful free and payware add-ons that if you can't find something to like, you might as well forget it and go pay the big bucks to fly the real thing. I'm not running a super computer either, AMD 1.3 GH, 512 RRAM, GeForce3. MS Force feedback joystick. To sum it all up, I enjoy FS2004 more than than FS2002.Keep 'em flyingDave
September 19, 200322 yr Author In a nutshell, and this is a generalised summary:Pitch control in Fs2004 is more sedate, translating into inability of some aircraft to achieve high G loadings where previously it was effortless.Power in some aircraft is increased for the same given power settings, resulting in some developers having to make radical power adjustments.Spin-capable aircraft in FS2002 no longer achieve this in FS2004, due to - shall we say - a shift of goal posts. Some FS2004 aircraft sort of vaguely attempt to spin but that's a question of interpretation.None of this is particularly a problem. It will just take a bit of time before former capabilities are re-established after somewhat tiresome but necessary adjustments are implemented. Conclusion: Unless the goal was to radically improve things, it would have been better to leave well alone.Rob Young Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
