IFR Check ride, FS9 solution / hints

Featured Replies

Hi, everyone. Many pilots have asked me if the IFR Check ride can be satisfactorily completed, and after I spent some time trying what I knew that would work in real life, and never got it, I decided to look at the code and see if it was sound. The code looked like it was written by a 12 year old that had nothing better to do in his spare time, but the logic / flow chart, looked correct, except for some of the error checking. I hope this guy never gets into Medical instrumentation, or other fields where lifes depended on it. After a few hours, that I now have a record of and will send a bill to M$, I was able to find a combination, not necessarily realistic, but works in this sim., with repeatability. The main problem is the Hold, see detailed description below, Procedure Turn, and some other interference from this, yakity yak programmer (heading bug positioned when you don

I have to agree the *.abl files are very cryptic and sparse.Trouble seems to be that not many use the lessons. I tried troubleshooting one of the early lessons on coordinated turns. You do practice turns but the lesson never continues to have you practice coordinated turns.Did you notice this from the Rating Checkride.abl :( : // Set this var to TRUE if you wish to // fly the lesson manually but not get booted by the eval segments. bCheat = FALSE; bOBSSet = FALSE;W. Hi.>I have to agree the *.abl files are very cryptic and sparse.Yes, they seem to take it lightly. I don't likre programmers the use programmers that use terms like "yakity yak" "do I have to spell it all out for you" etc. They a just using up storage space and look ridiculous.>Trouble seems to be that not many use the lessons. That doe seem to be the case around the Forums, but the people that I associate with, mostly Pilots and or Students, are very interested in them and I do tell them to try them out. When they cannot accomplish it the come back and ask me, if I cannot satisfactorily complete them, it make me look like a fool, and I end up spending hours trying to figure them out. They could have, very easily, been done right, but like almost everything coming out now days, it's only half done. Lack of professionalism and pride?> I tried troubleshooting one of the early lessons on coordinated turns. You do practice turns but the lesson never continues to have you practice coordinated turns.I read about that before, but I do not know exactly which one it is?The IFR Check ride can be completed successfully, mostly Standard rate turns. Part of the problem is that the aerodynamics are such that in a steep turn, over 35 Deg. bank, a lot of back pressure is required and additional, a lot of, power needs to be added, more than real life would be. If the turn gets out of the margins for Error, the program looses track of where it is, that does occur in the IFR Check ride also, and never catches up with you. Another sign of lack of programming skills. The Error checking is a real problem with these guys, but I am sure it's because they think of it as a game.>Did you notice this from the Rating Checkride.abl I have seen quite a few problems with it, it could be very easily resolved, if they just take a little time.
