FS, XP and dual monitors

Featured Replies

Hello all,OK, I bit the bullet and went to XP, FS runs fine and faster and lets me use my 1gig ram, however, I ran 3 monitors in 98SE, main GeForce Ti46oo, and two accesories ATI Rage II 64.That worked fine in 98SE but XP won't let my ATI cards work, says something about a: Code 10 error, and I don't have a clue. Please help, I'm without half my instruments and my FSNav . . and going through withdrawal. Thanks in advance,Clayton T. ClayI have been fairly happy with FS2004 FPS running close to 20 with my ti4600 128 MB driving two analog monitors each in 1280/960. (MB Asus P4PE 2.4 GHz 1GB ram) One (primary) is driven directly and the other(second) through Leadteks DVI/VGa dongle. FSNav 4.6 can be brought to the second monitor where it stays where I tell it in Full Screen mode or in Windows mode . I just wish the other FS2004 gauges would. For weather, flight logging, etc, I use a second much older and slower computer linked by Pete Dowson's WideFS server/client. Larry JonesFlorence, MT

Larry,Thanks, I'll have to do that if XP won't let you use another Vid Card . . .I've asked a few experts but have yet to get a reply other than yours. At least I CAN do that till I find out about the others.Best,Clay

I have experienced a similar issue in that following a recent video card up grade. I was hoping to move up to three monitors after replacing my old Geoforce 2 card with a new 4800se card (one off the VGA port, another off the DVI port using the supplied adaptor, and a third off a TNT 2 PCI card.) However I can't get Win XP Pro to recognise the third PCI card and also get this Code 10 error. The TNT card worked fine previously as a secondary card for my Geoforce 2.Is this an XP limitation or somthing to do with the 4800SE card or even a driver issue? I am using the supplied 42.30 drivers.Bruce

I peaked in the M$ support data base for code 10 error. Results below between the dashes. In http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...8&Product=winxpM$ says "You can use any combination of the PCI or AGP-based video adapters that are listed in this section with multiple monitors. Only video adapters that are based on the chip sets that are listed in this section work as primary and secondary video adapters." And the nvidia TNT2 is listed.FYI, Larry--------------------------------------------------------------" Code 10If the device has a "FailReasonString" value in its hardware key, that string is displayed as the error message. The driver or enumerator places this registry string value there. If there is no "FailReasonString" in the hardware key, the following generic error message is displayed: This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed. (Code 10) Try upgrading the device drivers for this device. Solution button: Update Driver To resolve this error code, make sure the device is connected to the computer correctly. For example, make sure all cables are plugged in fully and that all adapter cards are properly seated. Follow the suggested solution button and update the device driver. It may be possible to remove the device and redetect it using the Add New Hardware wizard."--------------------------------------------------------------------ref:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...3&Product=winxp

Hello All,Well, trust me, updating the drivers doesn't work! However, I have found, thanks to Don at the other site, what does. You go into your BIOS and name the pci card as your primary monitor, then activate in windows xp the g force and make it your primary display. sort of tricking Windows just a bit.I now have the GeForce running monitor #2 (my main) with the primary display, and #3 (my guages, from the Geforce also on the second outlet), and the #1 monitor, which is the pci card, just does FSNAV.works like a charm.Thought you guys would like to know. Best to allClay

Hah! Well, give M$ credit for being half correct.XP does support the PCI TNT2 adapter if you know the "secret" installation procedure. Larry

Larry,Thought I would give you the 'catch-22' to this. If you do that, and tell the BIOS to make the pci card your primary card, well, then 2004 runs under that card, no matter what monitor you have switched around.Found that out when my fps dropped drastically from the GeForce Ti4600 to the Rage II 64mb . . . big drop but I had three monitors..LOL. Oh well, it was a good thought. Put it back to normal and will try to hook up FSWide for the second computer to run FS Nav..BestClay
