  1. Well I can't help you with your FG issues - I also have my display extended over a second monitor but don't see the FG artifacts you describe. Perhaps the problem lies with the monitors you are using - do they both have the same resolution and aspect ratio? I have a 40 inch 4K Phillips monitor and a 49 inch 4K Sony TV both circa 2017. I run MSFS2020 on the Sony TV and Little Navmap, Simbrief etc on the Phillips. Bruce
  2. Hmmm on looking at this again you might be right. I am going have to temper my expectations for a CPU upgrade induced FPS boost. More reason to hang on to my 9900 for a bit longer but like you I have another use for the 9900 so I am going to have to upgrade at some stage over the medium term and yes upgrading from a 3080ti to a 4090 has been one of my better hardware purchases as much for the doubling of VRAM as for FG. Interesting I have been waiting for info on where Intel is going with their new CPUs. Bruce
  3. Unfortunately I still have this sim frozen but sound still audible hassle - at least with the Fenix and DX12. the PMDG 737 seem to behave normally with DX12 but not the Fenix - freezes after 30-60 mins. However tried the Fenix with DX11 and and no freezes after 4 plus hours. This is a bit of a bummer as I have been relying on DX12 and FG so that I can have decent FPS with my 9900KF/4090 combo. Bruce
  4. So Noel are you saying that you are only getting a 25% increase in FPS by by moving from a 9900K to a 7800X3D. I was under the impression that your would get a 100% increase with that upgrade. Bruce
  5. The same here! These are all my reasons for being a close to day 1 purchaser. I wish HiFi all the best for this new endeavor and thank them for their past support of our hobby over many years. Bruce
  6. Yes I have had that usually associated with the "There is a problem with your GPU etc " error - the sim freezes but the sound continues. First noticed with the Block 2 Fenix A320 but then got it with the PMDG 737. This all came after a Windows 11 update so maybe that messed with MSFS2020. I updated to the latest Nvidia drivers for my 4090 and the sim has run for over 4 hours with the PMDG 737 and no errors, yet to try with the Fenix so we will shall see in due course if things are back to normal. Bruce
  7. That fixed my Fenix A320 dark avionics hassle so thank you. Bruce
  8. The problem with that expensive idea is that even with a current gen CPU and a 4090 and FG at complex airports with lots of AI traffic your not going to get more than 80-90 FPS and I doubt you would see the difference with 60 FPS. But yes, if I could justify a new monitor/TV, a 50 inch OLED would be on my radar if I wasn't yet to be entirely convinced of PC use with OLED screens. Bruce
  9. Got the" Press any key to start" hassle for the first time today but yes that seems to work. What a PITA!! Bruce
  10. Hmm- my next cpu upgrade post MSFS2024 looked like being an AMD7800x3d and now I come across this thread - I will watch this space with interest. Bruce
  11. Agreed. I don't use Auto FPS and have a stutter free smooth experience in MSFS2020 including on approach to complex airports. With FG enabled and mostly ultra preset I have FPS capped to 50 in RTSS and FPS capped to monitor refresh rate of 50 in NCP (a recent change down from 60 for both settings). Now I have to keep TLOD set to a modest level (120) and traffic to about 30% to achieve this with my 9900KF - although I do have 4090. But if I set TLOD to 50 on the ground I only gain 1 or 2 FPS maybe a bit more if I reduce clouds from ultra to high on a cloudy day. At the other end FPS will drop markedly if I set TLOD to high levels at altitude so I leave it at 120. The gain in visuals is certainly there with high TLOD but you have to look for it so overall I don't miss it. The other thing I have come across recently is the importance of not maxing out you VRAM if you want to avoid stutters - but the OP has a 4090 so that should not be part of his issue. Bruce
  12. Noel I have a similar setup to you - 2 monitors a 9900Kf and a 4090 - but with FG at 4K I only see very minor judder when moving the mouse pointer from monitor to monitor. I have only just noticed it after I went looking for it and it has never been a distraction in the past. For me upgrading from 3080ti to a 4090 has been one of my better FS purchases and has enabled me to hang on to my 9900KF at least until MSFS2024 arrives and possibly beyond that. Like you I have to limit traffic and TLOD but everything else is the Ultra preset or higher with a steady 60 FPS except at Inibulids KJFK (that is some heavy hitter of an airport). I think the 24gb of VRAM helps FG to cope with base FPS below 30 certainly better than FPS in the mid 20s at KJFK with my previous 3080ti and its 12gb of VRAM. Bruce
  13. I have seen as much as 19gb of VRAM used with my 4090 at 4K. Bruce
  14. Try your hand at landing at NZWN (Wellington) on a typical windy day. A short runway with water at both ends it is a nail biter in real life (which I have done many times as pax) and a challenge in the sim. Bruce
  15. I need to pause the sim through the pause simulation option in the Developer menu otherwise I get a CTD after 30 mins or so. Pausing this way does seem to stop everything including time but will the Pause at TOD suggestions above work with this pause method? I suspect not. Bruce
  16. I have a 9900 CPU and a 4090 GPU with FG enabled but see none of the artifacts described by the OP apart from very minor stuttering when rapidly panning at the usual suspect high end airports - no where else.. I also use TAA and have vsync enabled in the NCP with frames locked in the NCP to my 49" 4K Sony TVs 60hz refresh rate. This setup works very well for me - so much so that I wonder what I would gain by a CPU upgrade apart from getting my base frame rate (without FG) at high density airports into the mid 40s. But with the frames I see limited to 60 by my TV I might not see any improvement. Bruce
  17. Hmmm - where have we got withis bird?. It was going to be a day 1 purchase for me but very quickly threads like this cropped up and they continue. Seems that it may be more trouble than it is worth. Are the developers trying to iron out the wrinkles or is the plane's current state what we will have for the long term? Thanks. Bruce
  18. The initial update was very quick but I am halfway in the with the Caribbean update and so far it has taken 2 hours on a 250 mbps connection. One of the slowest updates for me since MSFS2020 was released. EDIT Actually things started to speed up at about 60% and the whole download took about 2.5 hrs. Bruce
  19. This has been my point all along. Bruce
  20. Well at 4K with my old 3080ti I would regularly hit the 12 gig VRAM limit but with my 4090 I reguarly see 19 gig being used - well short of the max 24 gig. Before I upgraded I saw other posters with 4090s claiming the same so I decided 16 gig would not be enough. I think 20 gig would have been fine but when it became clear we were not going to get a 4080ti (or super or whatever) with 20 gig I took a deep breath and got the 4090. So far no regrets even paired with my old 9900KF (to be upgraded post MSFS2024). Bruce
  21. But with live weather you can go to other places where there is zero actual snow on the ground but with live weather there is snow permanenly 24/7 355 days a year. Bruce
  22. I am still struggling to see the point of this app. On the ground at heavy duty airports I have to drop TLOD to about 50 before I get any FPS benefit and if I do that ground texture looks awful on short final. So yes on the ground at a high detail airports with very low TLOD you might get more FPS as you taxi about but at the cost of things looking pretty terrible just before landing or just after takeoff. In the air seeing improvement in terrain visuals as you increase TLOD above 100 is difficult - more trees in the distance but you have to look hard to see them and at night city lights extend further but again you have to look hard to see them. Background Bing terrain textures seem unaffected by the TLOD setting until you drop this to well below 100 and even then it doesn't seem to be a distance thing. You don't get a radius of sharp Bing textures that degrade the further into the distance you look. So this all being the case why do we need an app that dynamically changes TLOD when leaving at say 100-120 has little adverse effect? Again with OLOD I can understand that high settings could in theory produce stutters on final at high detail airports as lots of data gets loaded, but in the air I can't see any benefit for high settings for OLOD. So again why do we need an app that dynamically changes OLOD? Why not just leave this at a modest setting permanently? Bruce
