  1. Surely this change reflects the desire of LM to compete with MS2020 in the non commercial space or at least to keep what is left of its non commercial/professional user base. I mean in my case there is no way I would spend something north of 250 AUD for P3Dv6 but if all my Orbx scenery etc and my long haul airliners are ported over with a minimum of fuss I just might spend 90 AUD on v6. Bruce
  2. That is pretty much my position also. I currently have three simulators installed (P3D4.5, P3D5.3 & MSFS2020). With P3D6 announced that could become four. No way I want this to become five. It is all getting out of hand. But I think developers will move quickly to update to MSFS2024 (unlike the situation with P3D6) so hopefully there shouldn't be a need to keep both MSFS2020 and MSFS2024. Bruce
  3. Depends what you mean by forced updates the recently announced MSFS 2024 is not a forced update MS2020 will continue to be supported and even within MS2020 there are many updates that are not forced. Bruce
  4. Not for me but I hope all you historic aircraft enthusiasts get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Bruce
  5. Which is exactly what I said is going to happen in another thread a few days ago. Bruce
  6. The suggestion made earlier in this thread that you really only need weather for the past 24 hours so that you can fly in time appropriate weather is very reasonable. However I doubt that it will ever happen simply because it does not fit with the interests/desires whatever of their prime gamer user base. Bruce
  7. Well it is about time! Just about every other city in Australia has a detailed payware airport in MSFS2020 - Melbourne, the city I grew up in, has been the standout exception. Bruce
  8. I think it is inevitable over the medium term that we will all have to pay again for much of the stuff we have now over and above what otherwise could have been the case. While developers can maintain now that their products can be ported over for free (to avoid a tank in sales) and will run just fine there will also inevitably be be new "features" in MSFS2024 that will require paid updates in order to be supported. At least until we have a lot more detail about the new sim caveat emptor applies for the purchase of addons going forward. Bruce
  9. There is no doubt in my mind that MS have moved the goalposts with the new sim announcement but having said that I am in no way surprised as they needed to in order to keep the sim financially viable. I just wished they had been upfront with its customers in the first place and not leave us all with the impression that after shelling out for MS2020 it would be supported for 10 years with regular updates and bug fixes etc and no additional costs. Unfortunately the new sim seems headed away from my FS interests as there is little in the trailer of interest but at least it may be a bit more pretty. I guess we can always hope that P3D6 will eventuate with all the bells an whistles many are hoping for and provide an alternative - a long shot I know - but there is always hope. Bruce
  10. Well as I said I would be quite happy with a database that is no more than 12 months old but it seems these days it stretches out to much more than that. Maybe procedures change more often in Australia to elsewhere in the world as it has been an issue for me with the RXP Garmins in P3D. Less fussed about intersection data. Bruce
  11. I never used the EFB in P3D so I don't miss it in MSFS2020. Bruce
  12. So it would seem a purchaser of a Garmin trainer based GTN can expect a database at least 6 months old and stretching out to 2 years or so before an update. Now 6 to 12 months I could accept but 2 years is a bit long particularly for procedures. Oh well this at least gives me something to consider. Bruce
  13. Well we are going to need v6 pretty soon otherwise there may be very few users left to notice with the ongoing evolution of the other sim - eg Black Square have announced the development of the Turbine (and PIston) engine Duke for MS2020. Bruce
  14. Wow this is a surprise. Looks like my P3D install might be finally on the way out as one of the only reasons it is still there is the turbine Duke! Bruce
  15. I assume you mean the Alternator assignment on the Alpha yoke as there isn't one on the Bravo unless you have used one of the custom assignable rocker switches. Anyway this works if you change the assignment on the yoke so thank you for the suggestion. Bruce
  16. I use EA on (with 2D clouds) for the simple reason the bluish haze effect masks the deficiencies of landclass scenery making the view out the cockpit much the same as you get with MSFS2020 particularly ar airliner flight levels. Bruce
  17. I always preferred the tricycle version in FSX and the one with the lower window panel in the doors - given the reviews I will give this a miss. Bruce
  18. Just to point out the obvious even if we are all satisfied with the landclass scenery depiction we currently have, either default or the enhanced Orbx renditions, a P3D6 that continues with at level of realisim is not going to attract back the 95% of users that have left the platform thus making it very difficult for 3rd party developers to recommit as well. Bruce
  19. That perhaps that has been the issue all along as priming the engine for a lot longer than 2-3 secs even at temps above 20 deg C seems to solve the starting issues even with the Honeycomb rotary switch. Thanks all for your assistance. Bruce
  20. Thank you but I have unbounded the Honeycomb rotary switch. Anyhow I seemed to have fixed it (touch wood it probably won't work tomorrow) by setting the boost pump to high for a cold start and maybe low for a hot start. The engines fire up with this setting both in the Baron and the Bonanza. This is quite contrary to the checklist so go figure! Makes things very confusing for the hapless user of this expensive addon. I have also noticed some other anomalies which are probably too picky to mention like the stb alt annunciator warning always on in the Bonanza regardless of the actual setting - is that normal? Bruce
  21. Thanks but while that trick gets the prop to keep spinning the engine does not fire up. This is getting a bit annoying after all the rave reviews for this bird. Similar issues with the Bonanza but at least I can get Control E to work with that one. Bruce
