  1. UTL1 works fine in P3D5 without the generics but you need the xml from P3D4. I put UTL2 in the bin over a year ago. Bruce
  2. If photoreal is your thing just move on to FS2020 and you will have the whole world in photoreal and if you are lucky photogrammetry as well. Unfortunately I am a fan of the PMDG and FSLabs stuff so I am stuck with P3D and largely landclass scenery - for now. Bruce
  3. Missing a lot of Australian airports including my local one YMER Merimbula and YMRY Moruya on the NSW Far South Coast - both airports are serviced by regional airlines so not particularly minor. Merimbula's runway is 5200 feet long is also used regularly by the military and in a pinch could handle a 737. YMER.was the first addon I downloaded from for MSFS2020 flightsim.to 18 months ago. It is still there. Bruce
  4. Thanks Steve for that explanation. Bruce
  5. Thanks Ray that is what I normally do. Bruce
  6. Vsync not enabled but at 4K with high settings. Non OC 9900KF cpu but with turbo boost runs at 4800 ghz most of the time. I have had it OC'd as high as 5.2 ghz but the consensus seems to be that OC is best avoided with MSFS2020. Not worth the hassle to OC just for P3D. I normally have vsync enabled so I try to adjust settings so as not to go below 30 fps - the refresh rate of my Sony TV. A while back I swapped out my 8086K for a 9900KF that I have had in my collection of bits. This gave me two more physical cores and on benchmarks a big performance boost at least with HT on but this never translated to P3D. It does run cooler though which I was not expecting but I guess that could be due to a getting more effective thermal connection at installation. I would like to run P3D5 with just the 2D clouds but oddly on my system there does appear to be a performance cost if I do so. I do think that the "look and feel" of P3D5 has changed as we have moved from 5.0 through 5.1, 5.2 and now 5.3. The performance boost I saw on moving from 4.5 to 5.0 doesn't seem to be there now even allowing for the slightly lower clock speed my cpu now runs at.- perhaps offset by other "enhancements" .But most users seem to like the latest version so it seems I am the odd one out. I am unapologetic in my enthusiasm for MSFS2020 but I am also a fan of high end commercial aircraft from the major developers and apart from the PMDG 737 they aren't coming to the new sim any time soon. So I will be using P3D for some time and will have to get it working for me as best I can. Bruce
  7. I finally got around to repeating Ray's tests - this is what I got using the same Schipol scenario. In my case a PMDG 737NGX using a 3080ti at 4K. I only used shift Z and yes the FPS are quite erratic so these are my best estimates and all taken from the cockpit view. What I did find is that FPS tended to increase as you let the rotation continue. So perhaps some evidence here that with a high end card FPS is better with EA on and VC on which is not what you would expect. But I guess as the numbers are all quite high for a 4K display none of this matters that much and you may as well stick to what looks best. Bruce With EA=Off and HDR=Off it varied from 46-50 With EA=On; HDR=On and VC Off it varied from 42-45 With EA=On; HDR=On and VC at Low it varied from 50-60 With EA=On; HDR=On and VC at Medium it varied from 47-54 With EA=On; HDR=On and VC at High it varied from 50-60 With EA=On; HDR=On and VC at Ultra it varied from 54-60
  8. Well yes I can do all those things but they made little difference to FPS in most scenarios compared to my erstwhile 1080ti which has 11 gb of vram so with a 3080ti you only get 1 gig more. With the 1080ti I could rum P3D5 very well at 4K with moderate to high settings. Yes there were some limitations with dynamic lighting and clouds in heavy weather being the main ones now overcome with the 3080ti. But your experience may well be quite different moving from a 1070. Also on my system the 3080ti never runs at more than 30% utilization on P3D5 - it is hardly getting out of first gear. My point was that if you are sticking with P3D you will be disappointed moving from a 1080ti to 3080ti. If you also run MSFS2020 then it is a very different story - a big improvement there. Bruce
  9. Well I recently upgraded from a 1080ti to a 3080ti and while this was very beneficial for MSFS2020 there was little change in P3D with GPU usage at only 30% under most scenarios. So apart from being able to use 4xSSAA (less shimmering at night) and dynamic lighting without a fps hit not much change in P3D from a very expensive bit of kit. So if you sticking with P3D and don't plan to move to MSFS2020 any time soon keep your 1080ti and save yourself a whole heap of cash. Bruce
  10. The problem is that the haze in P3D5 is just way too excessive with EA on - a big P3D5 turnoff for me and looks like the summer of 2019-20 in Australia when bushfires were raging over vast areas. You get a similar effect in MSFS2020 and it gets complained about on a regular basis but they seem to have it under control at present. Bruce
  11. Sorry Ray I have been pre occupied trying to get a clean reinstall of FSDT's addon manager and associated stuff. It has been a much more time consuming and complicated process than one might have expected but nearly there. Bruce
  12. Well that didn't work. Umberto tells me that the new installer only supports MSFS2020 at present. Looks like a good idea though. Bruce
  13. I am more interested in relative rather than absolute difference as in absolute terms you would expect higher fps from a 3000 series card than a 1000 series card - ie would you get better performance with VC than 2D clouds as some have found or, like you, better with VC? Bruce
  14. Interesting I will have to give this a try but I wonder if the results could different with a 3000 series GPU as I have? Bruce
  15. Thank you for that. I saw references to it elsewhere but a search came up short. I will give it a try. Apologies for any offence caused by my (now) deleted previous post but I wasn't seeking support here for GSX rather than a more general comment about Cloudfare being the source of download corruption over the internet as it is not something I have come across before. Bruce
  16. I feel you need to be an MS2020 user to assess the quality of P3D5 volumetric clouds. There are issues with MS2020 clouds for sure but they are much better than those we get in P3D5 and just shows what can be achieved in this 3D clouds space. Still not sure about hyperthreading - with P3D5 all I seem to get is increased temps but in MSFS2020 I don't get excessive temps with it on but then CPU use is much less like only about 30% with the GPU doing most of the heavy lifting at 90%. It also seems to me that in P3D there is a lot of computing power being left on the table with the CPU only running at 50% overall (although usually 100% on at least one core) and only 30% GPU usage. I guess it is a bit similar with MSFS2020 with only 30% CPU usage but at least the GPU gets a workout. Bruce
  17. Pleased to see they are working on YMML (Melbourne International AKA Tullamarine or just Tulla) as the current rendition even after the Oz update is pretty basic! Bruce
  18. Thanks Marcus for confirming this observation. It is probably why I first noticed an apparent loss of FPS with the latest updates as the saved test scenarios used 2D clouds with no EA. Something has changed with the way the sim gets displayed with EA off. While I have to allow for the way I have tweaked the black settings on my TV to get better cloud contrast and darker nights in MS2020 with EA off it now looks pretty ordinary mainly because there is no haze - is there a setting somewhere I have missed? And of course with EA on you get that excessive haze - if they could reduce the haze and tweak the clouds so they are at least up to (albeit imperfect) MSFS 2020 standards then the look would be quite good. As it is while the 2D clouds look much better than the current volumetric offering (IMHO) that is no longer an option due to the reduced FPS and the way the sim gets displayed without EA. Bruce
  19. Well in these tests I have been relying on what the FPS counter was telling me which I would have thought was quit objective rather than a subjective what looks best (but I agree at the end of the day "what looks best" is the test that matters). The frames in the mid to high 30s refers to the test situation which I run with vsync off - my usual practice is to have vsync on so I get fps of 30 (hopefully) which is the refresh my Sony TV is set to. I guess that is the case. Bruce
  20. I currently have HT on but sceptical about any benefit from this. As for EA with my system there is certainly at least a 5fps penalty for having it off if 2D clouds are used but no difference if the clear weather preset is used (ie no clouds). I am curious as to whether others see this penalty for using 2D clouds instead of volumetric clouds as it is quite counter intuitive.. I use the Job Scheduler settings suggested by Steve earlier in this thread. [JobScheduler]AffinityMask=65493P3DCoreAffinityMask=65493MainThreadScheduler=0RenderThreadScheduler=1FrameWorkerThreadScheduler=2 I have followed the various "Job Scheduler" threads on this forum with interest but I have to confess they go over my 76 year old head. Now if I do a test flight with the NGXu taking from FlyTampa's YSSY rwy 16 to the south and then doing a 180 over the city and heading south west towards Canberra my FPS in P3D5.5HF2 is in the low 30s on the runway and climbs to the mid to high 30s at altitude but can vary a lot and drop momentarily into the 20s and teens. Whereas with P3D4.5 FPS is in the mid 20s on the runway but climbs to the high 40's at altitude and stays there. I use the Clear weather preset in both. I think I prefer P3D5.3HF2 with EA on despite the very excessive haze but that has more to do with my 49" Sony TV's colour settings (something called colour vivid) which are optimized for photo editing but in P3D5 results in a highly saturated display with EA off. This saturated effect is somewhat less of an issue in P3D4.5 and MS2020. So has performance got worse with P3D5.3HF2 compared to 4.5? I guess the answer is "possibly" and "yes and no". Does it matter? Well provided I can keep FPS above 30 then no but in some situations this is not the case in P3D5.3HF2 compared to P3D4.5. Bruce
  21. Well I have done a reinstall by uninstalling the four components in the Control panel and running a freshly downloaded full install file with a matched checksum, Now I can set up the 747-800 scenario at 16R YSSY used previously and get FPS similar to or better than with P3D5.2 or 4.5. So success of a sort. However I am still left with degraded in flight performance with the PMDG 737NGXu compared to P3D4.5 using my YSCB scenario. I am going to have to test this more widely with scenarios from other locations. What I have also noticed is that my 3080ti is only running at 30% whereas the CPU remains maxed out at 100% on at least one core - very different to the way MS2020 works. One other thing is that it seems to me P3D5.3 has been optimised for EA and volumetric clouds which means you get lower performance with EA off and 2D clouds - makes comparisons with 4.5 more problematic. I think I am just about done with this I am not sure whether I am getting worse performance than previously with the new version 5.3HF3 but it is different. I don't care for the very hazy look you get with EA although through the gloom terrain colours are more realistic than P3D4.5 something akin to what you see in MS2020. But it seems you have to leave EA and volumetric clouds on or incur a FPS penalty with them off Bruce
  22. I don't have my 9900KF overclocked because I had stability issues with an OC of 5.1 ghz and MS2020 but with turbo boost the CPU runs between 4.8 and 5.0 ghz which is close enough - so I have stuck with that rather than trying to debug the OC. Now I am running at 4K which means complex airports are a challenge but quite achievable even with scenery complexity at very dense - or was so prior to the P3D5.3 update and still is with P3D4.5 and MS2020 (although with that I get much more benefit from the 3080ti). Now I have had issues getting a matched checksum with the P3D 5.3 full download zip but the one I used for my latest install does have a matched checksum. Bruce
  23. Hi Ian is that with Fly Tampa YSSY V2 and Orbx Australia V2? Just to be clear I can max out all the GPU dependent settings as you would expect with a 3080ti but Scenery Complexity is CPU dependent. Overall any GPU from a 1080 upwards can run P3D it doesn't make much difference but CPU is another story although my 9900KF should be able to do better than what I am seeing and has done so with previous P3D versions. Ray I have had Dynamic reflections disabled. Bruce
  24. Thanks Ray yes a complete reinstall is probably what I am looking at. I am not convinced that an addon is to blame as there would have been others complaining. I have been testing with an inflight scenario that involves the PMDG 737-800 doing a an anti clockwise circuit around YSCB (Orbx) departing and arriving on rwy 35. This airport and associated scenery is unremarkable but since the earliest days has been a FPS hog. With P3D4.5 I would have mid 20s at takeoff then a steady increase to 40 plus once well to the south of the airport. On approach frames would drop to the low 20s until over the fence and back to mid 20s on the runway, When I initially upgraded to P3D5 I got about a 15% increase on what I could get in P3D4.5 using equivalent settings that included scenery complexity at very dense. However now after takeoff FPS is all over the shop from low 30s to single digits - this creates annoying stutters and it never increases to 40 once south of the airport. As previously noted I have to wind scenery complexity back to sparse to get acceptable performance and the problem with that is many payware airports can look very ordinary. One setting that isn't the same as what I previously had is EA and volumetric clouds but that is only because if I turn off volumetric clouds performance is even worse! Go figure. Bruce
  25. Well I will have a look at my addons but whatever it is my performance in P3D 5.3 HF2 is quite terrible compared to what I had with P3D 5.2 just prior to the update debacle. I mean FPS dropping into the low teens whereas before it was 40 plus (unless I set Scenery Complexity to sparse!) Getting a bit sick of messing around with P3D maybe the time has come to fully move over to MS2020. One very odd thing that I have not previously noticed is that FPS gets much worse if you disable volumetric clouds which is quite counter intuitive. Has it always been like this? Bruce
