Help with lag-not fps, LAG

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I am new to this forum, but I thought I could get at least a little help with this issue.I have a 2010 macbook pro 13 inch with the nvidia 9400M 2.26 Ghz core 2 duo, running bootcamp. yes not the best set up, but its better then my old pc, and its all I have for now. I did some research beforehand, and it seemed people were able to get good enough frame rates, with decent graphic settings on this computer. well, I get great FPS even when flying in the default scenery near Boston with autogen/scenery complexity cranked all the way up, water at low 2x, mesh comp. at 50 LDR at medium, mesh and texture res at 5 and 2 respectively(i thinks thats what it was) weather at medium, and traffic turned down, and I surprisingly get a good 30 average fps, which is fine by me. but then I get this ridiculous lag (well not THAT ridiculous) but sometimes it will just freeze, like when I look around, and most annoyingly right at touchdown (its super annoying then because since i am addicted to the flight1 EZDOK cam, and when it lags on touchdown, it goes all wonky like your head fell off and is bouncing around the cabin) lowering settings improves fps, but doesnt fix the lagging problem very much, and its especially bad in the FTX NA Blue, where I normally do my flying. I tried overclocking the GPU with Nvidia Inspector by about 60mhz and i saw a small change in fps, but mostly just that jerkyness I'm sure everyone has experienced before. anyway, I've done lots of research on tweaking and overclocking etc, and have experimented on them a bit, I defrag pretty much daily, I close all background tasks, and I generally get good FPS but still this *&%#ing lag persists. other people problems all seem to be frame related, which makes sense as on my old lesser PC lag was never an issue. but now I get decent frames, and then freeze up when landing. its drivin' me nuutsss! i would gladly sacrifice some fps for smoother gameplay. any help would be much appreciated!

What FS version are you using? Is it at any particular airport this lag occurs, or is it all airports? Same with aircraft.

thanks for the quick reply! I'm on FSX. it occurs in higher density areas like cities, but its worst in FTX even on the recommended settings for my system. basically it happens with all my addons. its to be expected that i get lower performance with more complex addons, and the frames increase and decrease as expected, but the lag either increases exponentially or tays the same. it doesn't seem to happen as much though say, on islands such as flytampa grenadines with the settings turned up flying the carenado cessna. but any given inland area specifically the ORBX it gets really bad. its quite deceiving, as the fps gets respectively worse or better as i manipulate the settings, but the lag is always there no matter what my settings are at.

Have you tried uninstalling ORBX, testing for lag in common areas, then reinstalling. This way we can make sure that it is definately ORBX causing the issue, and therefore narrow it down to see what the problem is and how to fix it.

Yes I have, its a quite a bit less laggy (still some though) in general addon scenery areas are more laggy, but yes I have narrowed it down to orbx being the most laggy when flying similar Carenado GA planes, compared to different scenery areas such as plum island, and the grenadines. in general frames are better in orbx, but lag is in abundance. the aircraft have some impact on it, the worst being the sibwings L-19, but generally the carenados I fly are around the same laggyness as the default cessna. I guess the obvious answer would be to not fly in orbx, but its hard to go back to the ugly default scenery after using ftx. `Oh, I forgot to mention I also use REX, with few clouds, and water effects turned off. I uninstalled it, temporarily, but the textures from my last install are still on.

Well maybe your system doesn't have enough power to run all these hardware entensive addons, such as ORBX and REX.

If by laggyness you mean stutters, I have the majority of mine in Orbx's PNW area.A few things you can try is to lock your fps.Or install and run the FPS Limiter .bat file (search the forum for more information)
