2002 Vrs. 2004

Hi Everyone:Just doing a comparison, I have always purchased Microsoft's latest Flight simulators. This is the first time since the early 80's that I have not purchased the newest flightsim (2004).The reason I have not is from reading the post appears to be issues with installing add on and problems with video cards. Not being a puter wiz thought I would remain with Fs2002 which is working great, with Radar contact, FSD GA FsMeteo ,Active Sky and PSS aircraft.Am I in the minority and are my concerns valid.Thanking all who reply:)Kenny G.

Well you might want to check out the thread about who's still using FS2K2. It appears there are quite a few of us who have remained with FS2K2... for whatever reasons. As far as I can tell, yes there are issues yet to be addressed regarding certain video cards and transferring FS2K2 aircraft and some sceneries into FS09. Are you in the minority? I personally think it's about 50/50, but so what. There's no law that says you HAVE to purchase the newest version of your flight sim as soon as it's released. It'll be around for a while. And in the meantime, hopefully, "issues" will be resolved or corrected. New utilities will be released taking advantage of all the new bells and whistles. Aircraft and sceneries may be updated or re-done entirely for FS09. When you're ready, you can install it at any time. ;-) -Lindy :-wave

You'll be missing out. When was the last time a new version of MSFS was released that people did not bash? Each new version has it's teething problems (both real and imagined), the forums here are where people discuss them and find ways to deal with them (both real and imagined). Eventually, drivers get updated, legacy planes get updated, and people figure out where they actually should put the sliders. It's understandable to be reluctanct to switch from your matured version to the new version. However, you'll just end up being left behind as new products become available that the old version cannot run. The smartest thing to do, if you can afford the space, is to have both installed. That way you can "work on" FS2004 over the next few months as it matures while still being able to enjoy everything FS2002. At some point next year, you'll probably find that FS2004 has grown to the point where it exceeds FS2002 in enjoyment and you can finally feel good about putting it away.

>There's no law that says you HAVE to purchase>the newest version of your flight sim as soon as it's>released.Actually, in certain states, local laws dictate that when a new piece of software is released, the previous one becomes illegal to use.Apparantly it dates back to frontier times, and most states no longer enforce the law - but watch out... :-)For everyone else though, :-) you don't need to update sims - I mean look at all the FS8 stuff still coming into the file library every day. Heck, there is still loads of FS98 stuff being released over on flightsim.com. Afterall, if FS8 is fun for you, why bother. Wait for a few months until the price comes down, and any problems with the game/add-on software are patched.Personally, I never upgraded since FS98, and am still using CFS2.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/36121.jpgStill waiting for my new PC:Athlon 3000512Mb PC3200 DDR RAM (400MHz)256MB nVIDIA GeForce FX 5600seUntil then, FS9 sits on my shelf :-(
