September 27, 200322 yr Im going to upgrade my memory from 512mb to 1.5gigs. I want to upgrade for other reasons and two 512mb chips were pretty cheap. Just using plain old DDR SDRAM @ 333mhz. 2004 had already ran pretty well on my machine (minus cloud and overcast issues). I had read that the ability to create a solid overcast in 2004 had much to do with available system resources. Will I likely see any improvement here?Pentium 4 2.4GhzGeForce 4 Ti 4400 128mb512mb going to 1.5Gig RamI had switched back to 2002 due to the overcast problem... Might this help?
September 27, 200322 yr The ability to see a solid overcast layer would depend on your cloud density settings. While more RAM may give you a few less stutters when flying into dense areas, you won't see an improvement in fps per se. Basically, play around with your settings, to see what you'll have to sacrifice in order to see a full cloud coverage, but it could turn out that a new graphics card may have been a better investment.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
September 27, 200322 yr I went from 512 to 1GB RAM and did not see any noticeable improvement in FS2004 in so far as frame rates go. The program did load faster however and so did the scenery when looking form side view. The redraw was much quicker.Bill
September 27, 200322 yr Yeah I tweaked the cloud density settings way up. With 2D clouds I can always see through an overcast layer even with all sliders maxed out. With 3D clouds I get a nice overcast, but FPS drops from 30 to single digits. I have already switched back to 2002. The memory upgrade is not to get 2004 running well, but I was hoping it could help it. Guess I wont bother putting it back on my machine for now.
