September 27, 200322 yr Does any real pilots or good flight sim pilots know a way to do a perfect approach and landing, ILS or VOR, in one of the boeing family FS2004??ThanksLuke.
September 27, 200322 yr Author Don't try to land too heavy, too fast, too high and don't try to intercpet the ILS or runway at too great an angle. One of the big mistakes new FS pilots make, especially with the default planes, is to take off with full fuel load, do a shortish trip and then expect to land well.Try to have no more than about 10,000lbs of fuel when on approach.Downwind leg about 210 - 240kts, base about 180kts and about 4,000ft above airport height, aim to be about 15 miles out for your firat few flights. You can reduce this distance as you get better at following the ILS.Intercept the ILS at no greater than 30 degrees.Use the 3:1 rule of thumb for altitude, 1,000ft for every 3 miles, so if you are 12 - 15 miles out be about 4,000ft above airport.Descent rate rule of thumb, multiply speed by 5 and add 50, so for 160kts v/s is 850f/m. It is usual to use 160kts as approach speed up to about 4 miles out then reduce speed to landing speed, maybe about 140kts.Gear goes down when the g/s indicator is one point above and always intercept the g/s from below, but not too low :-).Don't forget to extend flaps as you slow and be in full landing configuration by the outer marker. Use the reference page of the kneepad to find flap/speed settings.Hope that helps.Oh, one other thing, practice, practice, parctice, and yet more practice :-). When you get it right it is great feeling.
