Default FS9 "Addon Scenery" Folder problem.....

Featured Replies

Not sure why, but mine is empty! I did have lots of Mesh's in there, as well as Landclass files...wierd, cant figure out what happened to it. My question, I know the Default Folder had a "scenery" and "texture" folder in it, did it have any files from the initial FSCOF install? Wondering if I need to look for a file on the CD, or re-install...Thanks!

No files are placed in the Scenery or Texture folders under the Main Addon Scenery Folder. It is espressly used for you to add files...that's why its called Addon Scenery. There may however, be a file called SCENERY.dat in the Main Addon Scenery Folder.

That's what I thought(I looked in my FS2002 folder..saw the scenenry.dat)....Will it create a new one when I re-add files to the folder? (cause that file is gone also) I really don't want to re-install FS9...it was a bear getting that last disc (the final cabs) to install initially, took 4 tries! If anyone could post one maybe I could modify it to work, or anyone know's which disc/cab it is on the CD's....

Jet. All of my mesh from FSGenesis installed into the main scenery dir. It gives you an option to choose another dir, but if you go with default when installing, it goes into the main. My understanding is that it is because it is BGL files only, no textures. I moved mine to the addon dir, and tested the FPS and it showed no difference. So I moved them back and continue to use the default location. That way you do not have to add or change anything in the file library. FS9 will see them automatically.

>Will it create a new one when I re-add files to the folder?7Yes. It updates these files at startup when changes in scenery folders are detected. They include the names of the files in the folder, as well as other probably important information which MS has not shared with us. You can view the contents with Notepad, but I don't recommend editing them!Stevewww.fs-traveler.com

Great! Thanks guys, I'll start re-dumping my Meshes in there. Really strange, don't know if a kid or even I accendently somehow deleted...the folder was just empty! I prefer to use it for Meshes, easier to weed things out if need be. I put most add-on sceneries in a seperate folder outside of the FS. (it's used by both FS2K and FS9)Cheers!
