  1. Hey all, Long time member, just starting to fly again after a few years off. I'm a big Long Ez fan, have flown one (my Brother-In-Law built one back in the 80s) and may built one or a Cozy sometime in the next 10yrs or so. (Work for Boeing over 25 years so looking to retire in maybe 7 years) Either one I plan on running a Mazda Rotary Turbo engine. The core is about bullet proof, it getting all the systems to work right but its been a pretty popular engine in homebuilts for many years now. So I'm wondering if anyone could make me an airfile that could simulate the performance. Turbo Rotary 13B block will have somewhere around 200-220HP with a max MP of 40. Having the Turbo allows you to fly over most weather at say 20-22K. I would expect to build a slightly stronger airframe also using many of the Berkut parts that are readily available. Also that much more HP of the 0-320 (180HP) would allow it pull more prop as well with a prop reduction drive of 2.5 IIRC. So if anyone with any skills wants a shot, let me know. It would be very much appreciated! Thanks! John T
  2. Not been here in awhile, thought I'd share a cool story. (been with C-17 for over 20yrs) I don't have FSX yet, was thinking doing proper Airdrops would be kinda cool....if done right. Weight shift, fuel burn, all that stuff...
  3. >You lucky "dawg". Yea, read a good article about the last>717 coming off the line there. Took some photos of the>buildings and that famous neon "fly jets" sign. Any idea what>they plan to do with those? Tear 'em down I suspect and make>more commercial/retail space :( >>P.S. - Must love your work!I hope they save that sign, maybe stick it in a Museum or something. Means alot to many folks.Been lucky to witness many a "first flight"...C-17T-45MD-11MD-90MD-95 (B717)777 (when I spent a year up north on the 747/767 lines)Far as I know all that side is going to commercial developement. I remember in the early 90's when we over 60K employees across the Long Beach sites, hourly shuttle buses from one to another. Now where down to around 8K I think.....much smaller work force. (though on C-17 much more efficient)
  4. Hi all!I work for Boeing C-17 in Long Beach. We also own this company:www.alteontraining.com I found out yesterday I get to spend a good hour and half in the full motion 717 Simulator in a couple weeks. Since I don't often fly the big stuff (though of course the 717 is one of the smallest of the big iron) I thought it would be best if I practiced some and got more familar with the panel. That way I would more enjoy the entire simulator experience and spend less time learning, though I expect plenty of that! What timing too...since we are delivering the last one later this month. Hopeing to attend that ceremony also.....The last SoCal Commercial JET.....sad times. Panel Pic included below....Thanks!JET

Hey Shez! While your at it I hope your updating the C-17 Buildings also. I've been working here since '87, your pretty close in some of it, off a lot on other parts. If you need some pics or something send me an email. jetninja at gmail dot com. What would be neat is a time switch, see the old one with all of our old production buildings if flying a couple years past, then all gone in current timeline....

Train busting I did in CFS3 a few years back. (default rails...can tell cause they are too big. Fixed later..)
  7. Used to work fine, as of yesterday it stopped. (its starting with '03 date now) I have been messing with the .cfg a tad trying to optimize a bit. Don't think I touched anything that would affect that, but no idea. Any help most welcome. Thanks!
  8. I never said anything about using it for textures. Only for more accurate placement of objects. The detail is totally prevelant on the Sat used. In my local area, Catalina Island has no Field data at all, but San Louis Obisbo field is awesome! That's all! Find out the shapes and placement of buildings, trees, roads, rails, parking lots, etc.....if your lucky enough the field your working on has detail in google earth.Cheers!
  9. Maybe old news to a few of you, I search back a ways and saw nothing about it. And nothing about it in the scenery guide! A free download, Google Earth takes the images from many satelite databases, with terrain information, and tons of options to show borders, streets, AIRPORTS, and much much more. You can Zoom from Space to 76 feet above the ground! You can tilt, rotate, move in any direction. The images vary in detail depending on the date and Sat used. (it shows my house from a year ago, before I redid the concrete of my pool...so its green! Ha Ha. Can see the wife Minvan in the driveway too) So how can it help in Scenery design? Object placement more then anything. It shows airports (and cities!) down to the local small field level including historical ones and heliports. Taking into account that the image may be a year old, you have Buildings, Trees, Towers, you name it. 3D Terrain and Buildings too! Incredible detail in most cases. And its WORLD WIDE!!!!Go here to download it: http://earth.google.com/ (even a Mac version)Download and install, look through all the options and check the ones that you want. It's an amazing program, and I think it would be invaluble to scenery design of modern day airports, scenery. Take some time to play with it, its very powerful and fun too! When you have airports selected, just find an icon on one and double click, it will take you down to it automatically. Use the tilt and rotate features to check out approches and all the scenery.PS, theres even an FS app, "Flips" that can show your flight plan routes in 3D on the globe! How cool!
  10. Got several here at KLGB, along with most every other type. (Both Gulfstream and JETWAY services centers here) I like to watch them depart while I'm eating lunch. (work at Boeing)
  11. Bump for ya! KSNA is my home Airport, and I work at KLGB (for Boeing..C-17!)
  12. ...on the way to the Paint Hanger....
  13. http://www.flightsimmer.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=134Good luck, the more the better. I helped to get a unit started with AlphaSim, but it didn't pan out. Since then I've been too busy in Racing Sims and WWIIOL...got burnt out a bit on FS. Back soon I'm sure though...

Well, I too of course would love to see it to completion. I sent Owen (whom I've known the past 3+ years since he was making his first model back in the FS2000 days!) lots of pics and drawings of most of the pit, loadmaster station, interior, and much more around last fall. (over the years dozens of scans!) Unfortunately he told me shortly there after that he and Steve were forgoing freeware releases forevermore. (due to some bozo's stealing stuff as I understand)Now I never condone such things and a persons work should be protected, but the reality of the net is just that. There are all types out there. I hate see the true lovers of such an aviation hero not get a quality version of her that matches the best of the dozens of Commercial Jets we see everyday in this Sim. You saddly have to be very thick skinned in this net world. People are People....I have been approached by another group that has offered to take a stab at creating a C-17. They are a multi manned group with a history. They are still working on some packages, so this would not be touched for a while.Owen, you have a massive head start. I would so love to see you complete her. You last told me you would not. If you are changing your mind, please let me know. Your work in the past has done a great service to the aircraft and sim population that so much likes her.In fact, if you are changing your mind, I have one aircraft in mind you could dedicate it too. Early in December one of ours was departing Bagdad airport...regular crew (Female first Officer I think) with maybe a dozen soldiers onboard. In the begining climb-out, they took a Sam hit into one of the engines. (dont remember which one..) They lost many primary systems, but all the backup worked fine. The Pilots MFD's were down, but the steam gauges were working. Fire ext were not able to put it out on the first or second try, they followed the book and made a safe turn around and landed ok. It was a scary time for them, but they performed awesome, and the piot said the aircraft handled like nothing had happened. The engine was changed a few days later and it departed normally. This story for what ever reason was kept out of the press, but it was recentlly written about in the Air Force Mag, and since on our company news sites. I expect the press will see it soon. Its under investigation also, since the missle warning system seemed to not work as planned possibly. If your interested, I can get you the story and info. You have my email.I know you all know some of the C-17's history, but for those that dont. She is the work horse. She holds many world records. Collier Trophy. Our Team has won the Malcom Baldridge award more then once! The California Business award. She has provided relief work all over the globe to every nation imaginable. In person she is amazing to see fly....at the Edward AFB open house...she's the only big bird to bring the crown to their feet with a roar....when she lands and then stops 2000' earlier then thier used to seeing! (in 1500')Cheers!
  19. It's all new....Replaces the 767 pretty much...much more range with 20% better fuel burn. 10% reduction in per seat cost. The interior is unreal...large, roomy and Oval....giant Bins that take roll-aways going in, instead of longways. Much more seat and leg room (talking major improvement), it's all up pretty cool for the intended market.www.boeing.com/commercial/7e7/flash.html
  20. Watching live Company webcast....Now to find the customers! :D
  21. A lot of contruction going on here at KLGB as the City takes over a lot of the old Douglas property, and we (Boeing) keep fixing up the C-17 Buildings and grounds. Hope you sometime come back to it and KSNA (live by it, work at Long Beach) maybe LOD's for the Buildings and other objects would really help the FPS. I need to make a new AFCAD for KLGB too sometime....you had a Cessna 210 Float Plane on the Ramp where we run up C-17's in test! :D Can anyone say Burbank? Chino?
  22. >Jetninja; read Hanner's reply to Tom's allegations:>>http://www.elite######s.com/page.php?page...ad=1&comments=1.Nice read, but they were not "Tom's" allegations, they are from 3 game companies. Tom's is not the only site reporting them either. Anandtech is also putting together a special focus on PQ and how its dealt with on these various cards.I'm waiting to hear from ATI. Nonetheless, I've been so close to grabbing a 9500P/9600P but forum after forum for the games I like (EA's F1 series, MS FS/CFS, and WWIIOL) I read about display problems with the ATI's by most. This gets old after 6 years! Maybe they are fine in whatever shootem up the wider population of teens and young men play with, but for my sims I expect the card to work too....
  23. >No freaking way would I put up with that terrible ground>texture blurring on the FX5950 just to get 3 or 4 more avg FPS>- that's the whole reason why it's "faster" than the 9800>anyway - Nvidia lowered the image quality in exchange for>speed. My next video card will be a 9800, absolutely no doubt>about that.>>RyanGo read the new stories at Anandtech and Toms'....seems 3 Game makers (not NV) are accusing ATI (and the visual proof is there) of lowering image quality to get better fps. In the recent comparisons, NV's image quality is better, though ATI does better smoothing of Vert and Horiz artifacts. Some of the pictures are quite interesting! But form your own opinion...after doing proper research. The ATI's have certain gotten my interest over the past 2 years (specially in 4 to 8x AA mode!) , yet they still exibit the same frustrating driver problems, an issue that I've never had long with an NV card....you always have so many to choose from. The new FX5700 looks pretty interesting....no way I can spend $400-500 for a card....but $200....much better!I also like that one of those sites is including F1C from EA in their benchmarks...another of my favorite Sims.....
  24. Hmmm....me thinks other things are the root problem...USB driver wise that is. I have always plugged in:1. MS SW PP Stick2. Momo Force Wheel3. HP 6200 Scanner4. Compaq IPAQ 36355. Altec Lansing ACS495 Speakers/Sup6. Epson 740i7. MS Optical Mouse8. Xircom 7 port USB HubThey are all plugged in but on the stick, mouse and speakers get used when flying (and hub) and as fast as USB 1.1 is,(or even 2.0 which I have but no 2.0 devices) Your controls are still well under the USB limit of 125 polls per second, which in a PC is dirt slow. And if I check the processes running, scanner, printer, etc are at 0.0. So no worries mate! :DGood article at Toms Hardware Guide right now on the new wirless mouses, some good USB info in the story....I've been running tons of USB stuff since my first Dell in '99...and have built three PC's since then. Nothing different and no stutters. FPS hits at 2 way to detailed for my Video card airports (Shev's KSNA and KLGB) but thats another matter.
