October 2, 200322 yr Hi,Hi, is there a way of saving instant replays? I like takng screenshots and would like to save little clips of flying. Is there a way of doing this?Save instant replays - no. The only option from within FS is to record a video and play it back. Bad side to that is you have to sit through your flight to take snap shots. The instant reply option can bring you back all the way to the begining of your flight if memory serves so if taking pictures is your main goal, that would work fine. If you only want to save little bits of your flights, FS doesn't have that capability to edit what you save using the "stock" tools. Mikehttp://www.members.shaw.ca/madamo/boeingsig.jpg
October 3, 200322 yr There's one method I have thought of, but I never tried it. I have a TV Tuner card which works nicely even while MSFS is running from which I can record mpg files. And my Nvidia card has a TV Out connector. I'll eventually get around to hooking up the TV Out to the TV Tuner, and try to record a replay :)I also recall hearing of one app that records video real time off of the desktop... Personally, I don't care for FS2002/FS2004's flight recording option. I actually consider it broken, as it does not replay back smoothly as it did in FS2000.Last point--that replay data is getting stored somewhere in RAM. If someone could figure out where, I can imagine a utility could be written to capture and reload the data.... Maybe that will get folks like Pete Dowson thinking. I'd pay for such a utility...-John
October 3, 200322 yr That prog your referring to is called Fraps, and it works reasonably well. Downside is that you must set your resolution to 640x480, and have a pretty fast HD and processor or things go slo-mo (it will slow your game down) LOL. Personally, I never had good results from that, well the movies came out fine, just flying at half or quarter speed while recording is ummmmm....interesting to say the least LOL.I have tried using my TV-Out capability, but results from that are not too good either LOL. Only thing I have access to that records is an old RCA VCR. Recording on the VCR and capturing it back works pretty well, except the video quality is poor at best. VHS does not have the quality or resolution needed for this sort of thing. Oh well LOL. I rather have slow-mo captures than lousy captures LOL.
October 3, 200322 yr There are lots of third party software packages available that allow users to record in compressed video format everything that happens on the screen.Camtasia is one example. I think they all cost though.
October 3, 200322 yr Try CamStudio - full version is free download at www.zdnet.com.Works fine but does hit fps on FS9 when you're using it(about 25% drop in fps) .Has many features I've not yet tried out - quite possible that better settings may help both with the FS9 fps and also with the recording quality - which can be a bit indifferent.A word of warning - the recordings (.avi files for playback in WinMedia Player) are large - a 30 second clip is about 25 mb at the default settings.Download is about 9mb- requires free registration to unlock- they just want your Email address.Totally Freeware.Dave
October 3, 200322 yr Further to above......The address is www.zdnet.com(Not with "Works" added- the posting prog did that)In settings I have found since that you can alter picture quality, capture frame rate and a host of other things- I think with a bit of experimenting it may be possible to get a reasonable balance between the recorded video and the drop in fps on FS9Dave
