Morphological AA with ATI 68XX Series and FSX

Featured Replies

Anyone tried this new type of AA with FSX ? those that may have bought a 6870 ?looks interesting because its a Post Processing Filter - so has almost no overhead .... which is impressiveit also gets applied to everything apparently - so may remove some jaggies in FSX that may or may not have been smoothed with AA beforeBUT conversely I've heard that it being applied to everything can make some text soft ? therefore I wonder how successful it will be with FSX ?http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-6870-radeon-hd-6850-barts,2776-4.htmlI'm umming and arring between a 6870 or a GTX470 at the moment - not sure which - leaning towards the 470 at the moment, but the performance of the 6870 considering its power draw is mighty impressive

But the fact is the GTX470 will beat it in FSX, who cares about the power draw, my 700W psu can handle it fine.

post process filtering isn't that like 189.50 driver for Nvidia?

Yes but I think this is more advanced, well the only way to really see is if someone gets the card and checks out FSX.

Close but It’s not the same, its better - If.If it can detect the scene well enough for the process to work and you are running at a high enough resolution to leverage it (It works in some DX9 games and in some it does not).It is much more intelligent type of process than any previous AA of non geometry objects (Alpha - transparency textures). Trees and other objects that use Alpha texturing, even some of the ground mask would benefit from this without the performance loss of previous attempts to do this type of AA. For instance it won’t try to apply AA to clouds (Alpha) because there won’t be the right pattern to catch (Aliasing). Also please note the 6870 has already demonstrated it is better than a 470 in some DX9 titles according to the reviews by a decent margin. How it will actually behave in FS we will find out soon enough, and it will shed much light on how the 69XX will do. With the 580GTX coming and the 69XX cards it may be an interesting last quarter!

Prices will proably drop even more too, this is a great time to be in the market for a high end GPU.
