  1. are you sure about that ? I'd be surprised ? can the GTX660 cope with decent amounts of FSAA with its limited memory bandwidth ? not sure about others on here, but for Flight Sims (less so on action games) - I run them at 1900x1200 with 8xAA minimum, most of the times (DCS A10, FSX etc) 16xAA - and looks great could the 66o cope with this ? as if it could I wouldn't mind something slighly cooler in my case
  2. thanks for your findings :) with reference to the memory overclock and benchmark results - it could be one of 2 things (1) those results are well in the margin of error for any benchmark (2) one thing to note DDR5 has built in error correction, which can start being used if overclocked too high. IE it will realise that errors are being made and will internally (on the memory itself) correct in real-time - BUT this does slow it down, therefore higher clocks can indeed get lower performance. Note that there are no outward signs (ie stability or corruption) - just lower performance. I'm slightly confused why you're getting better performance from the 660Ti though as in most modern benchmarks its not really that much quicker than a 580, and it has much lower memory bandwidth than the 580 (which I'd have thought was useful for FSX) personally I wouldn't upgrade my oc'd 480 for a 660Ti anyway be interested in further results
  3. I think it happens when the program puts the aircraft not high enough above the scenery and it suddenly bounces out of the sceneryI got it when I tried placing a plane on the top of the highest mountain
  4. definately still a flight sim
  5. worrying potential business model for this product ...Play Flight (free version) - and if you like it- and get into it - then buy FSX :)
  6. to be honest - MS have always had the latest and greatest popular Boeing in their sims...767 originally wasn't it ?then 737then in FSX - 737-800so a 787 is not unlikely I'd say
  7. no I wouldn't - but not really a fair poll to be honest - as its don't designed to be something you "buy" - but voted no none the less
  8. I agree with sharing your passion - do I think Flight is the avenue for getting our children etc into flightsims ? no ?I let my son (7) try flight this evening and he seemed very unimpressed (he has played FSX in the past - in small doses)his comments - almost straight off the bat were(1) graphics looked bad(2) where are all the planes I can fly ?no (1) you could argue - but (2) I totally agree with. I got into flight simulators playing the likes of FS4 on my dad's work laptop (I was about 10 ish at the time) - I used to love trying all the different aircarft, flying at different locations, and even making my own aircraft !! :) Did the scale of the program put me off ? no - its there to explore, see what you can find etc - you don't need to be guided through everythingI then went onto to buy all the succeeding FS series, Falcon 3, 4 etc etc - its what got me into flight simsbtw - when he tried FSX - after flying some smaller aircraft, his mind was wowed by trying a jet airliner - could he lower the flaps, go to full thrust (I have a X52), take off at right speed, then "fly around" and explore, look around cockpit etc ? sure he could, he found it pretty natural. He loved the fact that it was an aircraft that he sees at our local airport, and one hes been on. Was it too complex for him ? no. OK admittadly something like PMDG aircraft, or a full ILS landing would be way out of his ability, but all I'm saying is I think a FSX style game is plenty good and easy enough to get people into flightsims. It worked for me - it seems to have worked for my son.I just don't think everything has to be dumbed down so much - and people don't really need their hand lead through everything ....YMMV - just my views
  9. I let my son try flight" this evening(he's 7) this evening - as I've possibily been playing Flight with too negative "eyes"he didn't like take to it at all - his first comments were(1) Graphics do not look good (he has played FSX in the past)(2) Where are all the planes - what exciting planes are there ?I remember as a youngster playing FS4 and what got me into flightsims was playing around with lots of different aicraft, landing at locations all round the world. This got me into flightsims.
  10. banding here too - GTX480
  11. all settings set to high - running off an SSD drive toonot sure what's with that tree shadow either ? its upside down isn't it ?I'll retry mission after quitting and re-going into the program see if was just a glitch
  12. I think the Island looks fine from high up - but I think the missions should have been picked in such a way that doesn't show up the scenery flaws so clearly :( could have been avoided by making you fly higher or something. Or alternatively make the areas you are asked to go to "right" and high quality, blending textures etc - rather than jarring landscapesor do I have a graphics setting wrong ? (all set to high)
  13. lack of Blurries ?I took this in the higher parts of the island - almost looks like further away is higher res ? Sim is maxxed out - and as you can see Frame rates are very high and goodit actually looked worse in motion - the odd thing was it looked like initially the cliffs were high res - then they suddenly dropped in resolution ...just like you get with FSX and blurries ... my frame rates were consistently high so I'm sure it wasn't the sim trying to adjust for frame rate
  14. true and agreedactually - you know what - I've spent more time on the forum tonight than playing MS Flight which I've actually been keenly waiting for - for a while ! - so I'm off to play ! :)
  15. ok fair enough thanks - sorry - I'm with you in trying to be positive about the product as to me(1) any new sim is a good thing ....(2) its free (!!)but I think people are more than in their rights to be able to post they don't like it
  16. MVGibbage - I agree with most of what you say and state -but you seem overly agressive about anyone with even a hint of negativity re MS Flight ?I do note you do provide FSX commercial aircraft models - can you confirm you have no Commercial interest in MS Flight ? I am guessing you do not - but it'd be nice to know
  17. Gamespy ? I've been playing FSX for years and yeras (bought it on day of release) - and never used Gamespy - and has not hindered my gameplay :) after playing Flight - where do they then go "scuba diving" ?
  18. I'm not sure why everyone says that FSX was not accessible for newbies ??it was - it had its fair share of "fun" missions/tutorials etc.... BUT it also catered for when you became more profficient and wanted to move up .... thats the difference for mewhere do "newbie" MS Flight simmers go to if they get the taste for sims after playing this ?will they be satisifed with FSX if they have to contend with an older/less glossy graphics engine etc ?
  19. I do note already in that review the comment regarding the dislike of the world being largely devoid of life- which I completely agree with.
  20. thankswas there a bug in the Beta where if you place your plane at the top of the highest mountain on the island and click Fly - the MS Flight did not place aircraft high enough and when entering the game the screen just spun and spun and spun in all directions and angles !!! lol. I tried again and it worked 2nd time - so its not a consistent bug
  21. some mixed comments on there for sureare these the "general public" that Microsoft is trying to target ?I note Gamespy stating a review is in progress- will be released next week. I'm looking forward to what the press say - I'm genuinely interested - are they going to be positive or negative ?http://uk.pc.gamespy.com/pc/microsoft-flight/1219653p1.html
  22. I agree signs are there for airliners etc as serious addonsI'm concerned re pricing though .... if the current fairly simple aircraft are £9.99 each (ouch !!) - then how much would a full airliner be ??!!
