August 23, 201213 yr Hi, Today I finally recieved my EVGA GeForce GTX 660Ti Superclocked. So far, I only got around to run the GPUMark provided by Dazz. Initial Impressions: Smoothness.... - Overall, the sim feels MUCH smoother in heavy clouds than it did with my 580 installed. Stutters are not nearly as prevalent in clouds... Stutters... - In regular flying conditions (VFR/Moderate Clouds) there are almost no stutters. This is by far the smoothest FSX experience I have ever had. Quiet... - This thing makes almost no noise even when under full load! Now for the test results: GTX 580 Stock Clocks: Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg 5755 300000 | 17 | 21 | 19.183 GTX580 850MHZ OC: Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg 6240 300000 | 18 | 25 | 20.8 GTX660Ti Superclocked: Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg 6878 300000 | 20 | 27 | 22.927 The GTX660Ti Superclocked is 21% faster than a vanilla GTX580 in extreme heavy cloud scenarios. I really like this card so far. I hope this helps out for anyone afraid to shell out the cash for one of these cards! And just for the eye candy, here are some shots of the new card! :Big Grin:
August 23, 201213 yr Thanks for taking the time to test and share the results, Ben. Looks like a great option!
August 23, 201213 yr Author Thanks for taking the time to test and share the results, Ben. Looks like a great option! Not a problem! I really like the Kepler cards! These thing is so small compared to my 580! haha
August 23, 201213 yr Can you please do a couple of benchmarks at different memory speeds Ben? something like stock vs 3500MHz
August 23, 201213 yr Author Can you please do a couple of benchmarks at different memory speeds Ben? something like stock vs 3500MHz Dario, I'll run those later tonight.
August 24, 201213 yr Author GTX660Ti Superclocked 3000MHZ Memory Clock: Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg 6878 300000 20 27 22.927 GTX660Ti Superclocked 3500MHZ Memory Clock: Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg 6720 300000 20 27 22.4 These findings are interesting... I guess you can interpret what this mean though haha
August 24, 201213 yr Would it be worth it getting the MSI 660 Ti? Even though it doesn't have a lot of reviews its still the most popular in newegg (660 Ti wise). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127696 Moses Velasquez

August 24, 201213 yr Hmmm, i was thinking of upgrading from a GTX480 to a GTX670. But Bens benchmarks have got me pondering if the 660 is the way forward. It would be interesting to know how the stock 660 performs because here in Germany the difference between the superclocked 660 and a stock 670 is 60 Euros max.
August 24, 201213 yr GTX660Ti Superclocked 3000MHZ Memory Clock: Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg 6878 300000 20 27 22.927 GTX660Ti Superclocked 3500MHZ Memory Clock: Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg 6720 300000 20 27 22.4 These findings are interesting... I guess you can interpret what this mean though haha It doesn't mean that a higher memory clock will cause less performance, it's just that it doesn't improve performance at all. There's always an error margin in all benchmarks.
August 24, 201213 yr Good post Ben I would be interested to know what the difference is between my 560ti and the new 660ti before I spend my hard earned cash.......
August 24, 201213 yr nVidia really got the KEPLER series right. Every 6x0 is great (well, maybe the 680 is not THAT great but just because of how awesome both the 660 and 670 are). CASE: Fractal Terra Silver CPU: AMD R5 7800X3D 5.0Ghz RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 GPU: nVidia RTX 4070 Ti SUPER · SSDs: Samsung 990 PRO 2TB M.2 PCIe · PNY XLR8 CS3040 2TB M.2 PCIe · VIDEO: LG-32GK650F QHD 32" 144Hz FREE/G-SYNC · MISC: Thrustmaster TCA Airbus Joystick + Throttle Quadrant · MSFS2024 · Windows 11
August 24, 201213 yr I guess this would be overkill for my Dual Core2, so it has to wait for my next PC. Anyway interesting, thanks.
August 24, 201213 yr I guess this would be overkill for my Dual Core2, so it has to wait for my next PC. Anyway interesting, thanks. Well, it really doesn't matter all that much what CPU you have. In CPU bound situations (clear skies, demanding airports...) FSX is going to be CPU limited no matter what CPU you throw at it. Once you start increasing the AA levels, and adding clouds, it quickly becomes GPU bound. At 2xSGSS already it doesn't matter what CPU you have, with enough clouds, it's all about the GPU. So to run high AA levels, which is IMO the "only" use for a good GPU for FSX, and unless your CPU is really slow (yours is not that slow), a powerful GPU will always do good. By the way, how does FSX run on Wine?
