GTX 660Ti First Benchmarks

You'll be able to run 8xS and 2xSGSSAA no problems with a 660ti.

I'd like to think so too. The thing is that my GTX285 accually has a higher memorybandwidth thanks to its 512bit bus, which is important regaring AA.

It's true that the GTX 660 Ti is weak in higher resolutions with AA. However, your GTX 285 has GDDR3 memory, so the difference isn't as big as you think.

The GTX 660 Ti surpasses the GTX 580 in all cases except for high resolution with AA. So if you want to feel sure with your purchase, get the GTX 670.

Thanks for the advice!

Unless you are running crazy high resolutions, the 660Ti outperforms the 580 in everything.

I'd really like to see some numbers here. With GPU-Z you can monitor your performance and it would be nice to know the GPU load with major thunderstorms, 8xS + 2xSGSS and at least 1920x1080 resolution.

I found that if I go down to 1680x1050 (although my native res is 1920x1200) my GTX 285 can handle the 8xS + 2xSGSS just fine, GPU load 50-70%, and the image quality is not that bad either.

At 1920x1200 and 8xS + 2xSGSS, I get between 80%-90% GPU usage with my 660TI in major thunderstorms (FSX weather option) when departing FSDT KLAX.

I almost find this impossible to believe considering my 660Ti frequently hits 100% load in heavy clouds with 8xS + 2xSGSS...

It's true alright. I run maxed out detail clouds (1024x1024 32 bit HDE v2) and I stay locked at 30 fps with a GPU load around 50-70 with any aircraft and full WOAI. But if I use the native res 1920x1200 the GPU starts hitting 100% and that of course leads to stutters.

The 285 was and still is a great performer. This is why I think I'll wait until the GK110 (GTX780/770) is released before I upgrade.

And thank you Chaos81 for your input as well.

1680x1050

I overlooked this part ^^

The 780 will likely be a complete beast.

If it is around 25-40% faster than the 680, we will be able to run 8xS + 4xSGSS without a hitch or stutter in heavy clouds! :Nerd:

We might even be able to put on 8xSGSS!! :Big Grin:

Just got to thank you for this thread. I was using my old rig with a Q9550 @ 3.6 GHz, 8 GB DDR2 1066, and a GTX 280 (slight OC). I plan on building a new computer later this year, but in the meantime I thought I'd throw the new card in what I've got now. I was stuck between the 660 ti and the 670 and ended up grabbing the MSI 660 ti PE. I cannot believe the performance difference over the GTX280.

FSX runs so smoothly now, there's no stuttering, tearing, or blurriness at all. Can't wait to see what this card can do when paired with an overclocked i5, 2000+ MHz DDR3, and a couple SSD's!

On a side note, Skyrim shows even more improvement, woohoo!

<-------- VERY happy

Glad everything is running nicely! Be sure to post in the motherboard forum if you have any questions regarding your new rig!

I'm getting my gigabyte wind force over clock edition this weekend. I have heard the overclock edition can be pushed further and even comes close to performance to the 680!

Will do some testing this weekend.

My gigabyte windforce 670 oc'd quite a bit over the factor oc. I got an extra 70 MHz on the core and 500 MHz on the memory and don't break 55 C. Should be able to bump it a fair amount.
