Heavy banding (moving shadows)

Featured Replies

Just did a (great) flight with the RV6 but I notice I do have heavy banding here and there all the time. The shadows seem to be moving constancly and aren't steady, which results in very obvious banding everywhere. I also get shimmering trees, specially looking through the (moving) prop.Maybe I am using the wrong settings for my GTX580? I use PMDG's settings with nVidia Inspector. Maybe I need other settings...? Anyone else noticed this?

I've noticed this when using inspector... I couldn't find a way around it so I went back to default in game settings...oh and p.s. - I was using settings found in Nick N's simforums post...

Jeroen, I set 64AA in Nvidia Inspector and it looks great. Also, have you tried altering the settings in the cfg file? I changed the LOD radius and it seems to work as well. I know, I know, it's not necessary to tweak, but you know me... :Nerd:Kind regards,

That’s interesting, as I can't force any AA mode to override the inbuilt without getting a black screen... maybe due to using an AMD card. All attempts at editing the cfg failed too, at least with the beta... are you using Custom=1 Stephen? as the changes won't stick, and change back as the game starts. I wanted to increase the LOD but was unable to do so, but again this was the beta.A dev said use Custom=1 in the cfg to allow users to force tweaked settings, but doing this seemed to get rid of all Autogen for me, and the LOD was still no better.I'll download the final later and fiddle.

I don't know Mark. I never went back to look and see, so I assumed. In any case I am getting really good textures, resolution and no shimmering whatsoever so it either took the change, or didn't need it. I will look a little harder when I get some time.Kind regards,

Okay Stephen... It would be interesting to know if it does work for yourself and others... I know I shouldn't need to tweak this, but its part of my make-up and I enjoy fiddling... plus, I do think the LOD looks low, despite a dev stating the number in the cfg cannot be compared to that in FSX and is in fact higher.I do wish I could force better AA to rid it of the shimmers, something I do not suffer at all in FSX.

Hm, I already seem to be using default game settings... I just realized I didn't edit the Inspector MS Flight profile...

64AA... er... Where's that setting? Do you force or enhance or...? As said above, I just discovered I haven't edited the nVidia profile at all. Maybe that IS my problem...?

I have the shivering shadows as well. Gonna try an NVidia override and see if that fixes it. From the cfg it loks like Flight is 16xAA.

Ok, keep me/us posted! I have no clue if I should use override or enhance or whatever... On the other hand... I might simply use my FSX settings and see where that gets me...

I get slight banding as well. It looks like it's just part of how shadows are being rendered. It's similar to how they were rendered in the game Elder Scrolls IV for example. Certainly a big step up from the blocky interior shadows in FSX DX10 Preview mode, but not up to the level of some of the cutting edge games released recently.

I tried 32xAA in Nvidia CP, but no change.
