September 13, 201213 yr I have just built a new computer using the Intel i5. Looking at the specs fot this videocard it would seem that it is the best bang for the buck. Is that so? Any help is appreciated.
September 13, 201213 yr The best bang for buck would be the newer, much more powerful, GTX 660Ti. I would highly reccomend it for use with FSX.
September 14, 201213 yr Author Thanks for your input Ben. I think the GTX 660 NON ti might fit the bill and budget here. I now have an ATI X1300, so anything will be an improvement.
September 14, 201213 yr I think the GTX 660 NON ti might fit the bill and budget here. Now that you mention it, I see that it is available on the market now! The GTX660 is about 5-10% faster than a 480. I would highly recommend it for FSX.
September 15, 201213 yr Don't get the 480 now unless you are looking for a HOT and LOUD card and you can get it dirt cheap. The GTX 660 (non ti) is performing very much the same as the 'old' performance king GTX 580 in gaming. Slightly better in some games and slightly worse in others. I'd say that FSX is a game where the 660 performs slightly better by looking at the numbers. So it's not a bad card. If you want better FPS with SGSS in clouds you can get the 660ti or the 680. The increase in price to the ti version is still good 'bang for the buck' while the 680 is the highest performer out there and you pay accordingly.

I'd be surprised ? can the GTX660 cope with decent amounts of FSAA with its limited memory bandwidth ? not sure about others on here, but for Flight Sims (less so on action games) - I run them at 1900x1200 with 8xAA minimum, most of the times (DCS A10, FSX etc) 16xAA - and looks great could the 66o cope with this ? as if it could I wouldn't mind something slighly cooler in my case
