I know Microsoft can do better than this.

I am sold on FS9 (FS 2004 - CoF).I like it. I am having a fine time flight simming around the world.Overall I give it a grade of: AIt doesn't get an A+ though because of the way it handles weather. Yes, the clouds are magnificently done. Beautiful in fact. Except when they are in the sky when they shouldn't be. It doesn't get an A+ because of the way it handles visiblity. Yep, the old, "I can't get a solid overcast" whine.Look at this small picture (24KB) of a screen grab of how FS9 handles visibility. I know Microsoft can do better than this.Thanks,DonaldShttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/40634.jpg

That's not the sim. That's most likely a video card or driver problem. State your system specs. There may already be a cure for it.

Im sure it will be upgraded to A++ in a year or so when hardware has been made that can actually give the weather and invironment the justice it deserves :)And this is meant in a positive way, think about it.. it will be a new sim to experience in years to come.I still remember vividly the joy it brought to my eyes when upgrading my hardware for FS2002 from a measely 350 mhz to a 1,333 Ghz :D It was a whole different sim and so will this be sometime when i get my hands on a P5 6 Ghz lol :D

looks goog to me!

Yeah, my haze looks nothing like that!I recently went from a 1 gig system (that ran it fine) to an Athlon 3200 with 1 gig high performance DDR and it is like a whole new experience!! I can only imagine what it will be like, when the hardware catchs up!Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com

Okay - my specs are:Pentium 4 - 2.8Ghz1024MB SDRAM128MB ATI Radeon 9800G PRO160GB HarddriveWindows XP HomeRegards,DonaldS

My haze also looks good on my old Athlon 1900XP/Geforce3Ti500--------- as I've stated countless times when the visibility question comes up. I can't see the runway until I'm nearly on it, when setting vis to minimums. It's "nothing" like in the above pic, and is actually quite realistic for an IFR landing. I've seen different screenshot's that have what appears to be an open hole of clear air around the aircraft when surrounded by clouds. But my aircraft is in a dense haze surrounded by clouds. We're just not all getting the same thing! It really IS a video card, settings, or driver issue.L.Adamson

Okay, it is a driver, video card, settings issue. What do I have to do to get realistic display for IFR landings with my computer specs as listed in my previous message?I sure hope I don't have to get a new computer. This one is only about 4 months old. Thanks,DonaldS

Two pics of an IFR approach. In the first pic, the lake is barely becoming visable on the lower left side of pic, & I can't see anything but haze ahead. The second pic is breaking out of the overcast just a few seconds after the first pic.I can also set visibility to where the VASI lights will just appear out of the haze as I'm nearly on the runway.

Have you gone into advanced weather & adjusted visibility settings there, instead of just the main weather page?If you have........... then I'll be glad to sell you my nearly two year old CPU! :)L.Adamson

>Have you gone into advanced weather & adjusted visibility>settings there, instead of just the main weather page?Oh yes, I have most assuredly done so. I received some very good tips from a fellow in the DC-3 Airways forum on adjusting and tweaking the settings in advanced weather, etc. I could make a screen capture of those settings, if that would help.As I said originally, I like FS 2004/FS9 a lot. I like it all but the way it handles weather. Just an opinion of course - but I feel FS 2002 did the weather much better than FS 2004 does. That's why the subject of this thread read; I think Microsoft can do better than this.Regards,DonaldS

I did the configuration/settings as you showed them and got marvelous results. Thank you. Although I had gone into the "Advance" section of FS2004 Weather, I had not tried the right combination of settings, I guess. In doing so I may have (keyword: "may") discovered how to make flying around in FS 2004, in an overcast just that -- An overcast; as in, "I can't see the ground".I want to go back and try it out before I shoot my mouth off here, about how I intend to do it.Thanks for your post. Regards,DonaldS
