new F16 from LAGO: your opinion

Featured Replies

Having been bitten once (did I hear someone say Wilco...), I decided that this time I'd wait before jumping the bandwagon. So, I will be happy to hear your opinion before I make up my mind.I'm especially interested in its performance since this issue was raised in their own readme file.

I've had a bad experience with one of their sceneries, but I'll have to say the F-16 is very nice. The model itself looks right, the vc is beautiful, and it handles like you would expect a hot rod fighter would. I have sat and just stared at the ab can. Air to air refueling is a plus. The dings for me are somewhat blurry textures, and poor frame rates in the 2D panel, but that seems to affect all aircraft in FS9. Good luck with your decision.Todd

.....and poor frame rates in the 2D panel, but that seems to affect all aircraft in FS9....I do most (if not all) of my flying from 2D cockpits, so how bad is it? just a bit slower than the defaults or a real FR hog?Thanx//Mike

In my opinion, it's tolerable, not a noticable thing unless you turn on the counter, maybe in steep turns, but even then not bad.I will say this much, I like you only use 2D for most flying. Use the VC with this aircraft. The impression of speed when flying low and fast in the VC, zoomed out to about 0.50, is amazing. Just my opinion.

Brian Doney

For me, it really pigs up the smoothness, especially in larger cities. But like Brian said, this airplane is really better flown in the vc, especially with active camera. My first take off in full ab had me at 3,000 and climbing while my brain was still sitting back on the runway....:-)Todd

ROFL! :-lol

Has anyone here compared this F-16 to the nice freeware one from Kirk Olsson? I have that one and like it alot, but looking for a bit "more" in the way of systems simulation and such. Thoughts?

I was going to say, there are some good freeware F-16 panels out there, and the new Viper is pretty sweet, best to check it out before spending the money on the Lago one. The new Viper is really easy on the FPS.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com

Thoughts?I thought that Kirk's visual model was better, but in every other respect, the Lago version is superior. The VC is very nice looking, and the aircraft systems are modeled correctly, including the flaps and autopilot. Also, it has the air-to-air refueling option that you can use with any other aircraft in your collection as well. For me, it was well worth the money, and I have never regretted buying it.- Martin

Thanks Martin! I also love the look of the gold tinted canopy on the LAGO model, something I wish Mr Olsson's has. Oh well :)
