Stuttering when water textures set to high

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem, and know of a workaround. I have FS9 running very well now with good quality visuals and good FPS, but whenever I put the water texture slider to high, I get constant stuttering. It happens with the stock default water, and with Bill Lyons new water textures. If I put it back to low or none, the stuttering goes away. I have tried lowering AA, and Aniso values, but the stuttering is still there when set to high. I don't have any stuttering at all when the water is set to low.I have an XP2700 CPU, 768 GB PC2700 DDR Ram, Audigy 2, Radeon 9600 Pro with Cat 3.9 drivers, and WinXP.

Wouldnt have expected such a thing with your kind of graphics card, but I can tell you I had/have the same thing with my GForce ti4600. One solution i found to work is to simply fly with no anisotrophic filtering (sp???). It seems this is the only setting I can get rid of it with. AntiAliasing doesnt change it no matter the setting.Might help you as well if you used to run with aniso...

I had to resize my OceanHeightField.bmp in the texture folder to 256x256. I was not having stutters but my framerates were bad with the full water effects. After resize i gained the FPS that i lost.the resolution doesnt show, but you will see some tiling of the waves, but you have to look for it. It doesnt bother me.5200fx ultra 128mb

Just switch to 16xAF Performance Aniso. You'll get a nice boost in framerates with very little quality loss.

When i switched to 4x aniso, from 16, I got no more stuttering.I am not noticing any visual quality loss. But that's just me.
