Hello fellow simmers.TIA for reading this.Let me give you first the details of my system. Maybe a user with a similar or identical system can helpAMD Athlon XP2400+Mb Gigabyte 7VTXE (VIA chipset KT133A)1 Gb DDRMSI Geforce 4 Ti4200 AGP 4x, 128MbDirect X 9.0bNvidia 45.23 WHQL driverslatest mb 4in1 driversBios updated to latest versionFS9registered fsuipc 3.10Realtek AC97 Onboard sound with latest drivers.17" monitorXP Pro SP1 and updatedrunning in windowed mode equal to the OS one (1280 X 1024, 32 bit)FS is freezing after a couple of minutes with default or payware planes (Archer, Pss, Pmdg) with or without real weather (MS or fsmeteo) or with no weather at all. Have tried all driver combinations from 44.03 and above (MSI or nvidia ones)to no avail. Uninstall and reinstall FS9 and deleted fs9 cfg in order for fs to recreate it without any luck.Started the OS with msconfig for minimum driver and services load with no results. No antialiasing from within the sim and practically I have done all the little tricks shown in forums concerning display settings and bios settings (aperture size, fast writes etc)Before formatting and reinstalling XP is anybody out there recognizing any conflict or known issue that I am overlooking?I have not been able to do any flight for at least one month and this is NOT nice...If you've read that far down then thank you very much...If you have any suggestion I will thank you more....The freezin issues have been extended to other games as well like Offroad, Colin McRae Rallye 3 and Spiderman so my kids are not happy either..... Other parents can understand why this is a problem....Best regards and happy flying...Thanos

Hi Thanos,Sorry to hear about your troubles. I have doubts that the following tips will help, but here they are. Since you are having trouble with other games as well, I recommend you run a filesystem check do this before defragging if you decide to defrag.Troubleshooting:

Thanos, I had your same problem and it plagued me for several weeks. This is what solved the problem for me. You also have a Gigabyte MOBO as do I.... Have you attempted to change your CMOS setup for "High Performance" ???? ..... Three settings in CMOS Performance/Optimized and Fail Safe....If you have changed it to Performance, reset for Fail Safe and reboot. If this solves your problem as it did for me you can try the Optimized setting and see if it holds..... I am currently running as "Optimized" with no problems....... If I return to "Performance" I return to the freezing situation...This also was freezing all other games until I took CMOS out of the "Performance mode..... Hope this helps. I would like to thank you both for your time and suggestions.I think I will focus on the BIOS field but in any case , I have to find a spare HD and do a clean install of XP and SP with drivers alone to see if I have any luck...Thanks again and best regardsThanos

Often overlooked is the power supply. With high performance graphic cards, a 400 watt supply is recommended; 300 watt is marginal. Also, this sounds very similar to heating problems I've seen in the past, especially after about 20 minutes into a game. Try placing a table top house fan blowing onto the case; if this works, I would look into some additional cooling in the case. Many cases today do not provide for adequate ventilation, especially with hot components. Athlon processors run very hot!!! You might try applying some Artic Ice between the processor chip and the heat sink. This alone can bring down the operating temperatures of the chip some 20 degrees.Larry S.

Hi Thanos,I take it you had it running fine before, and this is a new occurance?, this > "I have not been able to do any flight for at least one month and this is NOT nice..." leads me to believe that you have had it working fine before. If this is the case then you must have added, taken away or changed something in the last month.Systems don't just stop working for no reason, usually ;), if this is'nt the cast let us know.2 peices of info on your list I personally don't like, the VIA chipset is one of them, I had one a little while back, and unless they have changed drasticaly I would say they are the lower end of the chipset pile.I also note you are using an onboard soundcard, although this is not a major problem in its self, it has been shown that dedicated sound cards give better performance in FS.CheersDan.
