October 15, 200322 yr I got FS2004 running good, have many of my add-ons working now and find I spend all my time flying with FS2004. With my limited time, I beleive there is no going back now. FS2004 is the brave new world where I will spend my time till FS2006 or so.
October 15, 200322 yr I killed FS2002 off of my HDD one month after FS9s release. It was a sad day, but the future looked(s) bright :)
October 15, 200322 yr Still premature for me. I fly both. So many wonderful planes, combinations of panels and sound, scenery ... much of which won't transfer across yet. All that tweaking ... just can't get into starting it all over again with a sim that doesn't hack it for me yet.Dear Santa ... need more hardware, buster.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
October 15, 200322 yr In my personal opinion, it's much too early to completely transition to FS9.Too many of my favourite add-ons have not yet been ported to a new version (many of them, such as the 767PIC, will arrive next year at earliest), and in addition to this, the hardware required to run FS9 properly is still way too expensive. For me, I'll keep FS2002 on my primary PC, whereas a second, less powerful PC acts as the testbed for FS9. I'll almost certainly wait until spring next year (or even later) until FS9 will become my sim of choice. Then I expect hardware prices to have dropped off enough so I can afford a Radeon 9800 and P4 3000 or so.I don't see _that_ much difference between the old and the new version of FS. Eye candy is not the key point of my interests, and IFR flights can be done in FS2002 as good as they can in FS9.Of course, I'll prefer FS9 in the future. But for this year and the next couple of months ahead, I'll stay with FS2002 and FS9 is only "2nd choice" for me.Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. October 15, 200322 yr Cannot see my self getting rid of 2002 for a long time yet as 2002 Is so much smoother to use and a lot more fluid when bankingTo me I have waisted to much time on fs9 trying to Improve frame rates etc.......just cannot get It operating like I can with 2002, and I have heaps of add ons for 2002 ( Aircraft, Scenery, etc)I predict that my change over will happen when fs2006 arrives as I have lost faith In fs9
October 15, 200322 yr As someone who uses fs for ifr flight, I would say ifr flight can not be done in fs2002 as well as fs2004. Fs2004 allows vectoring for every type of approach, ils, vor, ndb and the ability to request different approaches on the fly. I can now file a flight from my home airport to my home airport-go out and practice an hour of different approaches alternating from one to another-just as in real life.I can even choose to fly the approach on my own, or take vectors, and do it on the fly. That is a huge, gigantic difference from fs2002.There were some that even said this could never be done (fs2002 days) considering the world wide number of approaches and coverage. For me personally that is the biggest improvement in fs2004-not the eye candy which also was improved, and lots of other features too numerous to list.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/Geofdog2.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
October 15, 200322 yr I can definately see the add-ons for FS2k2 to be holding people back. But, for me, I had one addon that needed in FS9, PMDG 737NG, and then I was set. I have the hacked 767 PIC in FS2k4, so it works, but it is ugly :( So, I had nothing keeping me attached to FS2k2, and poof, there it goes ;)
October 15, 200322 yr Hi John and All,The first month with FS2004 was a little rough. But after finding the right tweaks and settings and getting it running good I think the crown of the best version of MSFS ever can be passed from FS2002 to FS2004. I'm really loving it! I am fortunate to have a system that can run it with, not everything, but, pretty close to everything maxed out and use 16x AF and 4x AA. I do miss some aircraft and panels from FS2002, but I have plenty to choose from in FS2004 to not miss them too much. There really is a lot of great ones that have been made for and upgraded for FS2004. And I have most all my favorite addons working in FS2004, such as WeatherCenter, MyTraffic, FSNavigator, RealityXP 530 GPS, Active Camera, and more. So no going back for me either!Cheers,Jim
