FSX install problem

Featured Replies

I'm trying to install FSX onto Win7 on the new system I just built.Near the end of the install proccess I get this error: 0x800040702 Failed to load DLL: GameuxInstallHelperI've tried restaring the install and it skips through the install and stalls at the same spot. The files are in the folder I clicked on the fsx.exe (in Programfilesx86) and it let me register and that worked but afterwards it stopped with error Unable to create cache directory:C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\ScenerycacheIs there anyway to fix the problem?

Two quick thoughts--Had you done a bit more research before attempting the install I believe you would have discovered that many, many now recommend not installing FSX (or FS2004) under the default Program files. Most now recommend installing elsewhere such as in C:\FSGames or a similar folder and/or on another HD or partition. This is to avoid the numerous "permission and security" issues which occur in Win 7 with anything installed in the Program files area.If it is too late to start over, at least try turning off UAC (User Account Control) while attempting the install again. This thread may be useful also:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/281410-installing-fs2004-andor-fsx-in-win-7-64-bit/page__view__findpost__p__1746490Hope that helps.
