New Install of TP for FSX

Featured Replies

Hi,Win 7 - ReadyDriver installed (due to driver signing - works fine now). - TP Dos Window functioning - UAC Disabled I just finished the install and took a flight but no TP Scenery. I did refresh scenery and selected service.3, but still no TP scenery.I have include below the service entries for you to view, just to make sure all looks OK. I did just find the entry in the ini file which states service 3 is the active url. Forgot to mention that in thescenery library There are new entries above UTX so it seems that is OK unless UTX needs to be unchecked but not sure. Bob,I have UTX layered above default sceneries and ACTIVE... this gives traffic on most roads even with TP providing the photo textures. TileProxy folders must be higher on the scenery list and higher priority than UTX. Your scenery order seems correct. There are, we know, many reasons why you might not see photo scenery that TP is apparently making. Having the highest priority over all other surface cover scenery is just one.jpg caches are movable, so long as the .ini has the correct path name.TileProxy Photoreal World folder cannot be moved or renamed.Another possibility is one a few people have made: starting FSX before Tileproxy will cause the Photoscenery to not be displayed. If TP is started second, it is 'inactive' insofar as FSX is concerned but it becomes active if you open the Scenery Library and just click the 'OK' button - this will bring TileProxy scenery on line if everything else is OK. Just 'reloading scenery' will not do the trick. The DOS console display filling with '*' as scenery is made indicates that something is obviously going on but it takes a little more looking to find out what.Since you didn't say where you were starting up, I'd suggest going somewhere different for a few tests. Start TP and then a flight a good distance away from any previous location. When the flight is loaded and ready to fly, pause or quit the flight. You should do a Window search on the cache folders to make sure new jpg's were downloaded with time/date stamps within the previous few minutes. You should also have seen them being downloaded in the DOS window. Next do a similar search for .bmp texture files being made and stored in the "TileProxy Photoreal World" folder - also within the last few minutes. These are multi-lod scenery bitmaps and you can only view them with something like the ImageTool.exe included in the SDK.Let us know if any of this helps.PS. if you read back through a few months worth of posts you might find the same or similar problem brought up.. and usually resolved. But every time I see someone with those max_level=19 statements in their ini files I urge them to back off to a 'more reasonable' level of 17 (especially just getting started). A 30 cm scenery tile is MASSIVE and outside of a few areas there isn't any imagery to support it.. BUT YOU WILL MAKE IT EVERYWHERE YOU GO even if only 5m imagery (level 15) is downloaded. Loyd

Hi,,Thanks for chiming in. It seems there have been a number of people having similar issues. One being the driver signing which I corrected and the dos window is functioning. I opened up my scenery.cfg and after reading a post I think there is supposed to be entries contained for TP but I see none. My scenery.cfg numbers go to 115. There were no entries coinciding with the world scenery entries by TP in the scenery library. With autogen to zero I still see painted roads which would seem to me should not be there. I have flown in different areas and cannot find the landmarks. Something is not right. I always start tp first. I get zero hits and zero misses in the DOS window. Not sure what is going on.Bob

If no TP entries... are you sure you're looking at the right scenery.cfg? Even my (default) backup in the FSX folder has 120 entries (Acceleration)... and you should have 90 Tileproxy entries and the UTX entries.I installed for "all users" so my scenery.cfg is in "C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\Scenery.CFG" - yours may be under your user name.[Area.162]Title=UtUsaGpLocal=Scenery\UtUsaGpLayer=162Active=TRUERequired=FALSE[Area.163]Title=UT Usa LightingLocal=Scenery\UtUsaLightsLayer=163Active=TRUERequired=FALSE...[Area.169]Title=WORLD_0000Local=D:\\TileProxy Photoreal World\0000Layer=168Active=FALSERequired=FALSE[Area.170]Title=WORLD_0001Local=D:\\TileProxy Photoreal World\0001Layer=169Active=TRUERequired=FALSE[Area.171]Title=WORLD_0002Local=D:\\TileProxy Photoreal World\0002Layer=170Active=TRUERequired=FALSE[Area.172]Title=WORLD_0003Local=D:\\TileProxy Photoreal World\0003Layer=171Active=TRUERequired=FALSE...Like any file that can be edited in FSX, if you change something and save, then that file will have an updated "modified" date and you can tell if it is the one you just changed. If you really are looking at the active scenery config and it has no Tileproxy entries, you'll have to reinstall, I'd guess. TileProxy also saves your previous version (mine:Scenery.CFG.TileProxy.BAK) so you should see that also in the same folder with the other scenery config backup "OldScenery.cfg"If the Scenery.cfg is 'missing' TP entries, it may affect what you see in the DOS window... let's jump off that bridge once the get the cfg issue clarified.Loyd

Hi,Well, I found the issue. I have shut my gaming computer off so I dont have some of the detail. First of all my fsx install is on another drive (d:) which I believe contributed to the issue. The scenery.cfg file in the fsx folder was missing all of the world_xxx entries. I searched the non-fsx drive (os drive) and low and behold another scenery.cfg file in a folder called fsx game or something like that. I opened it and it had all the world_xxx entries. So, I renamed the scenery.cfg in the fsx folder on d: and copied the one I found on c: to the fsx folder. That was all there was and it started working. So there is an issue with the install when fsx resides on another drive, or is not in the folder structure that assumed default I guess. I wish I could explain it better, but I dont have the gaming computer fired up to give you the name of the folders. Although the scenery library in fsx showed all of the world_xxx entries the cfg in my fsx folder did not. Bob

My TP is on C:\the world scenery on D:\FSX on G:\ Caches all over the place.Scenery config in FSX folder should be very plain... it's the plain-jane default. Perhaps you allowed some default locations in your TP install and that confused it. Nothing of mine is in any default location but I didn't have any issues with it being scattered all over the place.Glad you got it working. Enjoy!a few Superlative scenery locations:Glacier National Park (KFCA)Idaho/WyomingThe California Sierras both north and south of YosemiteThe Dolomite region of the Alps (Bolzano LIPB) to InnsbruckLoyd

Hi,Well, it created something on my OS drive as everything else FS related is on my d:, and I dont know why. I have seen many having issues with TP not showing tiles and I wonder if it is those with Vista or Win 7? There was one fella who just gave up. He had installed 4 or 5 times, and everything was correct as per the experts. The install for some systems is not working correctly. Thanks for chiming in Loyd, I appreciate your help on this.RegardsBob
