New computer for FSX (1700€)

Featured Replies

Hello! This is my first post here...And I didn't find better place so I put it here. My laptop is now going old and bad. So I'm gonna buy new computer. I'm asking now, if someone can plan me a computer. The price cannot be over 1700€. I'm thinking i7 950 and GTX 580...Do you have better ideas??? The computer should be run FSX and some of the new games on ultra high. Thanks!

Basically a good start. Take a mobo from my sig, or as some suggest non-premium version if you don't need those extras. 2000mhz RAM should be in, 6GB is enough. And some 750W+ PSU.Don't forget good cooling, see some posts for some recommendations, NH-14 Noctua is a good place to start looking...

If you can keep your current case you'd probably be able to save some money... but it would be best to have a full ATX tower if you don't already otherwise the 580GTX may not fit!And an overclocked i7 with 580GTX will definitely need a hefty power supply try for 1000W possibly. I've seen people on the forums who have 1200W PSU's I'm not sure if that's too extreme

Contrary to what was going around the 580 is not as big as some made it out to be, in fact it has the same dimensions as a 285GTX (not a small card for sure).

But my problem is now is that the best GPU option to FSX...If i buy GTX580 I think that Ican't buy SSD card, but here's my packet, what do you say. I'm not gonna overclock hard just a little bit:D EDIT: There is two edits for the packet: MOBO(Sabertooth x58) and Graphic card(MSI GTX580)...Do you have better ideas???

This is a great computer, except the mainboard and RAM. As I already said in my post, 1600 or 2000mhz RAM is what you need, with a low CL (for example CMT6GX3M3A2000C8). And better mobo than UD3 - it's a VERY high price for a UD3R, they usually go for about 180€. P6X58D is the way to go, it's very much loved in the community right now.You should do way better price compare, there must be websites that give you price compares for Finland. For instance in Austria:UD3R 181€i7-950 250€eVGA GTX 580 470€etc.PSU is totally enough, I see someone saying you will need 1000W PSU. Nonsense. 750W is enough if you are going for a single GPU system, even for high overclocks with much more hardware in the case. And if you do decent savings like I wrote, you should be able to get a SSD, Corsair Nova 128GB for FSX only should suffice.

And GTX285 is huge, I can say that... even for my bigtower.

Yes, yes..It is no bigger than a 280/285/470/480 and that is what many were saying, its as big as a high-end card has been from NV and ATI, They are big but they will fit most any Mid-tower but better check first....Big bang for buck is coming in just a few more weeks when the 570 launches. You will get the performance of a 480+ for about the same price as a current 470 while it will run cooler and quieter..

Don't get caught up buying at one shop. The prices are still pretty high, compared to ones here in Austria. We have a website called "geizhals", it's this huge portal for price compare, all respectable shops are there, and there is lots of price comparing to do.It's an OK machine, our Dazz here, he's a fan of 1156, we all know that already :)For your hardware:DVD: GH22NS30 17,62 (myl)MOBO: P6X58D Premium 258,41 (myl)DRIVE: Samsung F3 52,25 (etec)RAM: Corsair CMP6GX3M3A1600C7 137,16 (myl)If this is Antec Phantom, then it comes with PSU - you want to buy your own PSU, and a case without PSU:suggestion:CASE: Thermaltake Element V 130,87 (myl)GPU: eVGA GTX 580 454,77 (myl)CPU: i7-950 249,95 (etec)Cooler: NH-D14 72,95 (etec)PSU: Corsair HX 750W 129,75 (etec) (though Silverstrone is also pretty good, I personally like Corsair though, look at some reviews and decide for yourself)_______________________________________TOTAL: about €1504Now, add a bit for shipping, lets say 30€, because it's from two different shops, and you still have about 150€ to spend, which you should spend either on:Smaller SSD or a good velociraptor (150GB should suffice). You MUST get a 2nd drive, solely for FSX.Building such a machine on one spinpoint drive absolutely defeats the purpose. You are gonna be pulling your hair out thinking you bought a snail.Notice I changed here and there something, it's what I think would serve you better. Now, you can go with a bit slower RAM, but you are gonna be killing your overclocking potential, with both speed and latency. Lowest is best for OCing. I've been OCing for a long long time, know a thing or two about that :-)Enjoy.

I'm a fan of facts... and fact is I was talking about 1155, not 1156 ^^^^:smile:but yeah, if waiting is not an option, I would go with 1156 (I5 760 or even an I3 depending on flying style)

Oh, right...Yes, yes, I've read your posts. I won't be going into that discussion though

Fair enough Word Not Allowed, no hard feelings, but I'll say it again for the OP:1366 has nothing to offer over 1156 in single GPU setups (some say even dual x8 x8 wont make a difference over x16 x16). It's not like I'm some visionary or anything like that, pretty much everyone out there knows that: these are the first three entries for a "1156 1366 single GPU" google searchhttp://www.techimo.c...156-1366-a.htmlhttp://www.overclock...d-1156-vs-1366/http://www.tomshardw...96-10-1366-1156http://www.google.es...lient=firefox-a BTW, I didn't notice you said it was not only for FSX. In that case you want a quad so do not pick an I3And 1155 is due in less than two months, just in case you didn't know, lekale

Actually from the looks of it 1156 is a very respectable platform for FSX... it's cheaper and you don't even have to stick with an i5 you could get an i7-875K which I believe is supposed to perform almost on par with an i7-920. Not sure if this is quite true... but it's possible.
