New computer for FSX (1700€)

Featured Replies

Actually from the looks of it 1156 is a very respectable platform for FSX... it's cheaper and you don't even have to stick with an i5 you could get an i7-875K which I believe is supposed to perform almost on par with an i7-920. Not sure if this is quite true... but it's possible.
The reason I suggested an I5 7xx is that Hyperthreading is useless for FSX, and most if not all the rest of the games for what I know, but you're completely right, I7 8xx ~= I7 9xx

But, don't you know the feeling of "almost"? I myself prefer a highend CPU, no restrictions, and then overclock the bejesus out of it.There is this policy I apply in my general life: cheap is generally crap. That applies to everything, from food, car, house, computer...I did live on the "other" side of the truth, and I didn't like it. I even used AMD for a while... <_<

That's fine Word Not Allowed, but sometimes the money is worth paying, and sometimes it's not. And knowing what you are getting for your money is the key (I think that's what people come to the forums to ask for). Assuming that you always get what you pay for will probably get you ripped off quite often. I'm not saying this is the case here and it's not directed to anyone in particular, please don't get me wrong, actually I also started not so long ago with an AM3 system and switched to 1156 (had some savvy users here recomending an I5 750 and I should have listened to them). Wasted quite a lot of money in the process

Fair enough, Dario. True what you say. I guess it's just a personal preference...

well, you got plenty opinions already to make that decision yourselfto sumarize my opinion:do you plan on going SLI sometime in the future? or running a multiple monitor setup? If the answer is yes, pick the components Word Not Allowed suggested. (See MOBO, PSU, case in particular)otherwise, a P55 board + I5-760 + 2GB DDR3-1600 (make sure they're low profile sticks so they fit under the NH-D14)BTW, are you OCing at all? if you're not you don't even need to worry about getting an aftermarket cooler like that NH-D14. The stock one will do

You really don't need an incredibly high end CPU for overclocking. My E8400 does 4.0ghz with no temperature difference from 3.0ghz and I'm not using any fancy custom water cooling, no Corsair H70, no Noctua NH-D14. Just a simple $30 Arctic Cooling Freezer. I think any i5-7XX or i7-8XX could manage a respectable overclock and 4 cores is 4 cores is 4 cores...

I can't maybe get GTX 580...Which is better to FSX GTX 480 or ATI 5970...? Or something else?

Leevi Lehtonen

GTX580 is the best, then the GTX480. 5970 is terrible in FSX as it's power cones from it's dual GPU's. FSX doesn't utilize this, so stick to single GPU cards.
