November 19, 201015 yr Can anyone tell me if they have any comments on the following computer to be utilized at running PMDG products?: Dell - Studio XPS 8100 Desktop / Intel® Core™ i7 Processor / 8GB Memory / 1.5TB Hard DriveJackMy advice is build your own computer. It's a whole lot easier than you might think, it's cheaper, and you will have much higher quality parts. Check out the following i7 build:CPU: Intel i7-950Mobo: Asus P6X58D-ERAM: Mushkin Ridgeback 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600 (6-8-6-24)GPU: MSI GTX 470 1280MB GDDR5HDD 1: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1T (Operating System)HDD 1: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1T (FSX)Optical: Samsung 22X CD/DVDPSU: Corsair 750WCase: Antec 300Cooling: Corsair h70Monitor: Samsung BX2450 24" LED (1920 x 1080) Yes, it's about $500 more than the XPS 8100 - but consider this build includes a $250 monitor, $200 worth of extra graphics card, not to mention two hard drives, a much more powerful processor, faster memory, solid power supply, good cooling, etc etc. Additionally, the platform on which that XPS 8100 is based is about to be outdated in January with the release of Intel's new Sandy Bridge processors. Sandy Bridge is supposed to be faster and run a lot cooler. Heat becomes a difficult problem to deal with when you get into these high-end computers. My real advice is to wait until Sandy Bridge is released before you do anything. But if you do need something now, then do something similar to the above, even if you have to tweak it a bit to make it more affordable. You might also forego the somewhat pricey video card in favor of something like a GTX 460 as nVidia is releasing Keplar GPUs next year. Keplar is supposed to deliver 3x to 4x the graphics performance and run a lot cooler as well.Let me know if you have any questions, I'd be glad to help.
