Trouble starting engines after some changes.

Featured Replies

I've recently made a couple changes to my system and am not certain if my problem is due to these changes or not.I've recently upgraded my Game Booster program to the latest version (2.0) which switches off background programs while in game mode. The most likely culprit is that I've also installed and run UltimateDefrag3 which allows you to move individual program files to the outside area of your hard disc to give faster access. All seemed to work fine. For some reason, in the missions when you start out with engines off, I can't get them started. I get the starter sound and the props try to turn but it never kicks in. If I go into free flight and run the same bird it runs fine evidently because the engine is already started. I can even shut it off and restart it with no problem. This is with the little Ultralight trike and the big birds as well. I've read in some threads where you can delete some files and they will be re-installed hopefully correctly. Is this an option? If so what files?I tried running the Acceleration dvd and ran the repair with no success as well as a system restore. Thanks in advance,MItch

The changes won't affect the way an aircraft starts, Mitch, but somewhere you've probably saved a flight as the default flight with the fuel shut off. My suggestion is too pick a location, say Washington, Renton, using the Cessna 172, start it with Ctrl-C, then shut it down by pulling the mixture, turn off the battery and ignition and then save the flight as the Default Flight, leaving the radios on. The sim uses some of those parameters from the default flight every time you start the sim, and applies them to the new aircraft/flight.

Problem solved and it had nothing to do with the UltimateDefrag3. The timing is what made me suspect that program. It must have been like this for some time but I hadn't used any of the missions that start with the engines off lately. What I had done is instead of adding a new key assignment to the engine start (Cntrl E), I changed it to my C9 key on my Logitech G15 Game Key Board. Evidently, this caused the problem in the missions that start off with your engines off. Once I added the Cntrl E back again, problem solved. Halelujah!!!! I was beginning to think I was going to have to do a complete re-install of FSX. Big%20Grin.gifThank you for the reply,Mitch
