FSX newbie needs all the help I can get!

Featured Replies

I'm very new to all of this and would love some expert advice on components for a good FSX computer within my budget. I'm a student pilot and FSX has been sitting on my shelf for 2 years b/c it ran so slowly when I tried it on my laptop. I currently know VERY little about FSX or computer components, but I'm learning as quickly as I can. I've found myself feeling very lost and overwhelmed trying to weed through all of the info on these subjects in the forums, so please be patient with my inexperience :-)Intended use: I will only be using this system to run FSX, and possibly a couple of flight combat games (lock-on, RoF...something like that). All of my other computing needs are handled with my laptop.Budget: about $1,000 USItems not needed : my budget does not need to include monitors, keyboard, mouse, controls, or OSPreferred website : I have mainly been browsing newegg, but I have no real preferenceAdditional Info : I will be running 2 monitors to start with and may want to upgrade to 4 in the future.I have had a few builds suggested from other (non-flight sim) forums ranging from $700-$1,000 if anyone would like me to post for critiques, but I would prefer to get some suggestions starting from scratch first.Thank You!

I would recommend an, Intel i7 8XX or 9XX CPU, an Nvidia 4XX 460 being the lowest graphics card with 1GB of memory, ASUS makes good motherboards, make sure what you are looking at matches your CPU socket 1156 or 1366, 1156 will be the less expensive route, DDR3 Ram 4GB at least, Hard drives are up to you just make sure its 7,200rpm or 10,000rpm drive, with 64mb cache 3.0 or 6.0 GB/S (Gigabyte Per Second) if you can afford Solid State Drives (SSD) thats great, a 750 watt or higher Power Supply, and WINDOWS 7 64 Bit version. That should help a little. Research that on newegg.
